The Kitchen Equipment and Freezer Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of all kitchen appliances, cold storage systems, and mechanical equipment. The technician ensures that all equipment is operating efficiently and safely to support uninterrupted food production and service operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Equipment Maintenance and Repair
Inspect, maintain, and repair kitchen equipment such as ovens, ranges, fryers, grills, steamers, dishwashers, mixers, and chillers.
Troubleshoot and repair refrigeration and freezer units, including walk-in chillers, blast freezers, cold rooms, and ice machines.
Perform preventive maintenance according to established schedules to minimize breakdowns.
Replace defective parts, motors, compressors, thermostats, fans, or electrical wiring as needed.
Monitor and calibrate temperature control systems and thermostats for accuracy.
2. Preventive and Corrective Maintenance
Maintain records of all maintenance and repair activities.
Implement preventive maintenance plans for all kitchen and refrigeration equipment.
Respond promptly to emergency repair requests to minimize downtime.
3. Safety and Compliance:
Ensure all work complies with health, safety, and food hygiene standards (e.g., ADAFSA, HACCP, ISO 22000).
Follow lockout/tagout and other safety procedures during maintenance work.
Maintain a clean and organized workspace and ensure all tools are in good condition.
4. Coordination and Communication:
Coordinate with chefs, storekeepers, and operations staff to schedule repairs without interrupting service.
Report recurring or major equipment failures to management and recommend replacements or upgrades.
Assist in the installation and testing of new kitchen or cold storage equipment.
Qualifications & Skills:
Diploma or Technical Certificate in Refrigeration, Electrical, or Mechanical Technician.
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in commercial kitchen or cold storage maintenance.
Strong knowledge of refrigeration systems, electrical circuits, and kitchen equipment operation.
Ability to read technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and equipment schematics.
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Basic computer literacy for logging maintenance records.
Physically fit and able to work in cold environments when required.
Work Conditions:
Based in kitchen or cold storage facility with exposure to heat, cold, and mechanical noise.
May require on-call duties during weekends or emergencies.
Must wear appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) at all times.
