WOOD POLISHER
Job Title: Wood Polisher
Department: Woodworking / Finishing
Reports To: Carpentry Foreman / Workshop Manager
Job Summary:
A Wood Polisher is a specialized craftsperson responsible for applying stains, paints, varnishes, lacquers, and other finishes to wooden surfaces and furniture. Their work enhances the natural beauty of the wood, provides protection from moisture and wear, and achieves the desired aesthetic effect, from matte to high-gloss.
Key Responsibilities:

• Surface Preparation: Prepare wood surfaces for finishing by sanding, filling holes and cracks with putty, and cleaning to ensure a perfectly smooth and dust-free base.
• Staining & Coloring: Apply stains and dyes to wood to change or enhance its color, matching specific samples or client requests.
• Finish Application: Apply protective and decorative finishes such as varnish, lacquer, shellac, polyurethane, or oil using brushes, spray guns, or cloths. Apply multiple coats, sanding between coats for a flawless finish.
• Polishing & Buffing: Polish and buff finished surfaces using rubbing compounds and polishing machines to achieve the specified sheen (e.g., satin, semi-gloss, high-gloss).
• Touch-Up & Repair: Touch up nicks, scratches, and imperfections in finished woodwork. Repair and refinish damaged wooden surfaces.
• Workshop Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized workspace and properly store and handle all finishing materials, which are often flammable and require ventilation.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Proven experience as a Wood Polisher or in a similar wood finishing role.
• In-depth knowledge of wood properties, finishing products (stains, sealers, topcoats), and application techniques.
• Skill in operating sanding, spraying, and polishing equipment.
• An excellent eye for color, grain, and detail to achieve high-quality, consistent results.
• Knowledge of safety precautions related to sanding dust and chemical fumes.
• Patience and precision, as finishing is a multi-step process that cannot be rushed.
