Job Purpose for Senior Architectural Specification Writer

Responsible for the compilation and updating of Master Technical Documents including material selection, technical specifications and general requirements.

Job Responsibilities for Senior Architectural Specification Writer

• Coordinate technical annotations on miscellaneous details, finishes, wall sections and advise the design team of workable systems.
• Develop master specifications including compliance with LEED\'s administrative and sustainable product requirements, in addition to other local and regional green building requirements.
• Research, recommend and specify products based on a deep understanding of local and regional construction materials and technology.
• Selection of materials to ensure specified building systems are appropriate including equivalent products and manufacturers.
• Maintain and regularly update building product database by conducting product research as to determine quality and availability of materials within the region.
• Review and quality control of construction documents, drawings and other technical resources.
• Review/study of building materials for determining suitability with principal regard to function, environmental exposure, fire and life safety, and statutory/code requirements.
• Work with project teams to develop documents and mentor staff on technical issues for both project and specification related issues.
• Contact manufacturers to help update the library of materials.
• Prepare vendor lists particular to each country within the GCC and MENA region.

Job Requirements for Senior Architectural Specification Writer

• Must have Specification Writing
• Degree from a well-recognised university or institute in Architecture, Architectural Science, Architectural Technology or equivalent.
• 15+ years specification writing experience, with at least 5 of those spent in the GCC and MENA region using NBS tools or equivalent international European and British formats and master office resources.
• Previous specification writing experience with a large Architectural/Engineering firm, preferably in the MENA region, is very desirable.
• Specification writing awareness and proficiency in Qatar Construction Specifications QCS 2014 format, and the ability to amend and update QCS to meet project particulars.
• Proficiency in NBS Building and ability to create an inherent Office Standard Specification.
• Expertise in handling CSI \xe2\x80\x9cconstruction specification institute\xe2\x80\x9d Master format specifications, including awareness of different Master Format versions.
• Thoughtful familiarity with E-Specs.
• Ability to edit specifications in a targeted technical manner to comply with design requirements without merely specifying systems as a basis-of-design. Capability in generating detailed technical specifications without merely mentioning manufacturers\' names and references.
• Excellent working knowledge of building materials and construction technology.
• Good working knowledge of current contract law as it applies to construction.
• Good computer skills with MS Office software suite.
• Registered member of a relevant professional body (RIBA/NBS, CSI, BSI, CIPS etc.).
• High proficiency in English language.
