Job Purpose for Senior Structural Technical Writer

Responsible for overall technical support to the Structural department in material selection, technical specifications and subjects related to construction contracts, preparation of general requirements and specifications, in addition to continuous update of different master technical documents

Job Responsibilities for Senior Structural Technical Writer

• Develop and update master technical documents (generic specifications, method of measurement, and bills of quantities) from outline specification to construction issue including compliance with LEED\'s administrative and sustainable product requirements.
• To research, recommend and specify products based on a deep understanding of different countries local construction materials, practice, and technology.
• Assist design teams in material selection to ensure specified building systems are appropriate including equivalent products and manufacturers.
• Maintain and regularly update building product database by conducting product research as to determine quality and availability of materials within the different regions.
• Support design and technical staff in the preparation of contract documents and stipulate, indicate and prescribe recommendations.
• Prepare generic manuals including general conditions with an in-depth familiarity with the various contracts and client supplementary conditions.
• Work with project teams to develop documents and mentor staff on technical issues for both project and specification related issues.

Job Requirements for Senior Structural Technical Writer

• Must have Specification Writing
• Degree from a well-recognised university or institute in Structural Engineering, specialized in construction material including concrete mix design
• 15+ years specification writing experience, with at least 5 of those spent in the GCC, using AIA, NBS or European equivalent formats.
• Previous specification writing experience with a large Architectural/Engineering firm, preferably in the MENA region, is very desirable.
• Excellent working knowledge of building materials and construction technology.
• Good working knowledge of current contract law as it applies to construction.
• Good computer skills with MS Office software suite
• Registered member of a relevant professional body (CSI, BSI, CIPS etc.).
• High proficiency in English language
