Job Purpose for Senior Electrical Specification Writer

Responsible for the compilation and updating of Master Specification Documents including material selection, technical specifications and general requirements.

Job Responsibilities for Senior Electrical Specification Writer

• Develop various master technical documents including specifications including compliance with the relevant local and international Standards along with sustainability requirements (Al-Saafat, Estidama, LEED, etc.).
• Research, recommend and specify products based on a deep understanding of locally available electrical equipment and material. Specified equipment and material shall be vendor neutral.
• Maintain and regularly update office master specifications by conducting product research as to determine quality and availability of materials within the region.
• Adapt specifications to suit the regional requirements and the Project nature.
• Review and quality control of construction documents and other technical resources.
• Support design and technical staff in the preparation of contract documents and stipulate, indicate and prescribe recommendations.
• Review/study of electrical equipment and materials to ensure suitability to projects with principal regard to function, environmental exposure, fire and life safety, and statutory/code requirements.
• Work with project teams to develop documents and mentor staff on technical issues for both project and specification related issues.

Job Requirements for Senior Electrical Specification Writer

• Must have Specification Writing
• Degree from a well-recognised university or institute in Electrical Engineering.
• 15+ years of experience in electrical specifications writing, with at least 5 of those spent in the UAE using NES, CSI or European equivalent formats.
• Previous specification writing experience with a large Architectural/Engineering firm, preferably in the MENA region, is very desirable.
• Experienced in the development of Outline Specifications and Construction Documents (specifications, method of measurement, etc.).
• Strong design experience and knowledge of various electrical systems including medium voltage, low voltage, standby power supply system, conveying systems, lighting, etc. along with excellent knowledge in relevant International Standards (IEC, EN, BS, NFPA, etc.)
• Good working knowledge of current contract law as it applies to construction.
• CSI Certified Construction Specifier (CCS) is preferred.
• Proficiency in E-Specs and NES is preferred
• Excellent research and communication skills.
• Very good computer skills with MS Office software suite
• Registered member of a relevant professional body (CSI, BSI, NES, IET, etc.).
