Job Title: Plumber / Journeyman Plumber

Reports To: Project Manager / Master Plumber / Operations Manager
Summary
A Plumber is a skilled tradesperson who installs, maintains, and repairs piping systems, fixtures, and appliances involved in water distribution, drainage, and waste disposal. Their work is critical for ensuring clean water delivery and sanitary conditions in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
Key Responsibilities
1. Installation

• Assemble, install, and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures for water, gas, steam, sewage, and drainage systems.
• Install plumbing systems in new construction projects according to blueprints and building codes.
• Install appliances such as water heaters, dishwashers, garbage disposals, and water softeners.
• Connect pipes using various methods, including threading, soldering, brazing, cementing, and pressing.

2. Maintenance & Inspection

• Perform routine inspections of plumbing systems to identify leaks, corrosion, or other issues.
• Clean drains, sinks, toilets, and other fixtures to prevent and clear blockages.
• Service and maintain water treatment systems, pumps, and water heaters.
• Test pipe systems and fixtures for leaks and other problems.

3. Troubleshooting & Repair

• Locate and diagnose issues within plumbing systems, such as clogs, leaks, and broken pipes.
• Repair or replace damaged pipes, valves, fittings, and fixtures (e.g., faucets, toilets, sinks).
• Repair or replace water heaters and troubleshoot issues with gas and electric lines connected to them.
• Fix sewer line backups and repair or replace sump pumps.
• Respond to emergency calls for burst pipes, severe leaks, and gas leaks.

4. Compliance & Safety

• Ensure all work complies with local, state, and national plumbing codes and regulations.
• Adhere to strict safety standards, especially when working with gas lines, sewage, and in confined spaces.
• Obtain necessary permits for plumbing work as required.

5. Customer Service & Communication

• Communicate effectively with customers to explain problems, proposed solutions, and costs.
• Provide accurate estimates for labor and materials.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area.

Qualifications & Skills

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a 4-5 year apprenticeship program is standard.
• Licensing: Journeyman or Master Plumber license as required by state and local regulations.
• Experience: Proven experience as a plumber, preferably in both service and new construction.
• Technical Skills: Proficient in reading blueprints and building schematics. Expertise in using plumbing tools, including pipe wrenches, threaders, saws, and soldering equipment.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy materials, work in awkward positions, stand for long periods, and handle the physical demands of the job.
• Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and customer service skills. Must be reliable, honest, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
