Department: Construction / Civil
Reports To: Masonry Foreman / Site Supervisor
Job Summary:
A Mason is a construction professional skilled in working with bricks, concrete, concrete blocks, and natural and manmade stones to build structures such as walls, walkways, fences, and other edifices. They are responsible for creating durable and aesthetically pleasing structures that form the shell of buildings and hardscapes.
Key Responsibilities:

• Laying Materials: Lay bricks, concrete blocks, stone, and other masonry units to construct walls, partitions, arches, and other structures using mortar and other binding agents.
• Reading Plans: Interpret blueprints and drawings to calculate materials needed and understand the layout of the structure.
• Preparing Mortar: Mix mortar or grout to the correct consistency and apply it to the foundations and masonry units.
• Alignment & Leveling: Use levels, plumb bobs, and measuring tools to ensure structures are perfectly vertical (plumb), horizontal (level), and aligned according to specifications.
• Cutting & Shaping: Cut and trim bricks and blocks to size using power saws, hammers, and chisels.
• Concrete Work: Pour, spread, and finish concrete for foundations, slabs, and other structural elements.
• Repair & Restoration: Repair, restore, or point old and damaged masonry work.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Proven experience as a Mason.
• Knowledge of mixing and applying different types of mortars and grouts.
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents and blueprints.
• Proficiency in using hand and power tools specific to masonry (trowels, levels, masonry saws).
• Excellent physical condition, with the ability to lift heavy materials and stand or kneel for long periods.
• Good understanding of safety procedures on a construction site.
