Junior Legal Counsel

Job Description

Qualifications and experience:
  • Law degree (essential)
  • LLM / Masters degree in business law (advantageous)
  • Professional experience of at least 2-3 years\' within a law firm and/or a multinational company as in-house junior legal counsel
  • Corporate and commercial legal background including drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts according to standard and non-standard frameworks
  • Fluency in English with sound legal communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Fluency in Arabic (both verbal and written)
  • Computer literacy - MS Office, MS Word (advanced), experience and exposure in working with MS SharePoint (advantageous)
  • Experience in the media industry (advantageous)
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

Legal Functions:
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts (including standard terms and conditions of sale, ad hoc advertising contracts, media agency contracts, lease agreements, supply agreements, memorandum of understanding, NDAs etc.), legal communications and other legal documents within defined turn-around times
  • Handling all legal secretarial matters of the Middle East subsidiaries of the Group (incorporation process of subsidiaries, drafting documentation related to corporate housekeeping (board and shareholders resolutions, powers of attorney etc.) and interaction with governmental authorities in this respect)
  • Updating of contract repository
  • Assist with and implement a successful contract management system to ensure an efficient end-to-end contract management cycle
  • Provision of legal advice across the designated Middle East subsidiaries
  • Undertaking of legal research
  • Keeping up-to-date with legal and regulatory requirements affecting the designated Middle East subsidiaries
  • Assisting in tender related matters in close coordination with the tender department in Paris and the Legal Director for the Middle East region
  • Identify and report on potential or actual non-compliance across the region
  • Monitoring compliance within the business, developing risk management plans and conducting compliance audits with the assistance and supervision of the Legal Director Middle East and the Head of Legal Affairs Middle East and Africa
  • Assist with and implement the roll-out of Data Protection compliance in the Middle East subsidiaries under the supervision of the Head of Legal Affairs Middle East and Africa. The incumbent must be able to demonstrate a practical and solid understanding and implementation of data protection within an organisation, including conducting and preparation of trainings for employees and external service providers, compliance audits across several business units in the designated businesses, conducting regular gap analysis and assessments, preparation of data protection frameworks and polices; etc.
  • Supporting the Head of Legal Affairs Middle East and Africa on all other governance and compliance related projects, initiatives and topics

General: The above list of tasks and responsibilities is not exhaustive and the Legal Director, Middle East and/or the Head of Legal Affairs, Middle East and Africa will be entitled to instruct the incumbent to carry out additional responsibilities and duties which fall reasonably within the ambit of the job description

Organizational Position: reports to Legal Director, Middle East and work closely with the legal assistant for the Middle East region

Designated Middle East businesses: The incumbent will perform the above list of tasks and responsibilities for the following designated Middle East businesses under the supervision of the Legal Director, Middle East (UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, Egypt)
