Position Summary
The Workshop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the workshop, ensuring that all jobs are completed efficiently, on time, to the highest quality standards, and in compliance with all safety regulations. This role requires a hands-on leader who can manage personnel, resources, and workflows to maximize productivity and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Management:

• Plan, schedule, and assign work orders to workshop technicians based on priority, skill set, and available resources.
• Monitor job progress to ensure deadlines are met and communicate any delays to relevant stakeholders.
• Oversee the procurement of parts, materials, and tools, ensuring availability while controlling costs.
• Maintain inventory levels and manage workshop supplies.
• Ensure all workshop equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.

2. Quality Control & Technical Leadership:

• Conduct final inspections on completed jobs to ensure work meets company quality standards and customer specifications.
• Provide technical guidance, support, and expertise to technicians on complex repairs or projects.
• Implement and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all workshop activities.
• Address and resolve any technical issues that arise during the repair or production process.

3. Team Leadership & Development:

• Lead, motivate, and manage a team of workshop technicians and apprentices.
• Conduct regular team meetings to communicate goals, priorities, and safety updates.
• Perform performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and identify training needs.
• Foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performance work environment.

4. Health, Safety & Compliance:

• Enforce strict adherence to all company health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures.
• Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments of the workshop.
• Ensure the workshop is always clean, organized, and safe (5S methodology).
• Investigate any accidents or incidents and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant industry regulations and standards.

5. Administrative & Customer Service:

• Review and approve technician timesheets and job cards for accuracy.
• Assist in preparing quotes and estimates for customers.
• Liaise with the service coordination/sales team and customers to provide updates on job status.
• Handle customer complaints or concerns related to workshop work in a professional manner.
• Prepare and analyze reports on workshop performance (e.g., productivity, efficiency, profitability).

Qualifications & Experience

• Essential: Proven experience (5+ years) as a Workshop Supervisor, Foreman, or Senior Technician in a [relevant industry] environment.
• Essential: In-depth technical knowledge of [e.g., automotive systems, CNC machinery, welding/fabrication, industrial equipment].
• Essential: Strong leadership and people management skills with a proven ability to train and develop a team.
• Preferred: Relevant trade qualification/certification (e.g., Automotive Mechanic Certification, Machinist Ticket, Engineering Diploma).
• Preferred: Experience with workshop management software (e.g., AutoFusion, Kerridge, Epicor).
• Preferred: Knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems or similar.
