Key Responsibilities:Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS/GAAP.
Ensure timely month-end and year-end close activities, including accruals, prepayments, and intercompany reconciliations.
Analyze variances and provide commentary on key financial trends, particularly around production, exploration costs, and revenue streams.
General Ledger Management
Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring accuracy of asset, liability, revenue, and expense accounts.
Oversee journal entries related to complex transactions such as joint ventures (JV), cost recovery, and production sharing contracts (PSC).
Monitor and reconcile accounts for drilling, exploration, production, and lifting activities.
Cost Accounting & Budgeting
Monitor and analyze CAPEX and OPEX, and perform variance analysis against budgets.
Assist with the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and long-range plans.
Allocate costs appropriately across cost centers, projects, and wells.
Regulatory Compliance & Audit Support
Ensure compliance with local tax laws, petroleum revenue taxes, VAT, and other fiscal obligations.
Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to audit queries.
Liaise with government agencies and partners regarding financial obligations, cost recovery claims, and tax filings.
Joint Venture & Partner Reporting
Prepare JV billing statements, cash calls, and cost recovery schedules for partners.
Track and report on cost sharing in accordance with operating agreements and PSCs.
Coordinate with JV partners on financial and compliance matters.
Internal Controls & Process Improvement
Implement and maintain robust financial controls and accounting policies.
Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency in financial operations.
Ensure SOX compliance (if applicable) or adherence to internal audit recommendations.
Requirements:Education & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master's preferred).
Professional certification (CPA, ACCA, CMA, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
Experience
5+ years of accounting experience, preferably with 2-3 years in the Oil & Gas sector.
Familiarity with upstream/downstream accounting, PSCs, and JV arrangements.
Experience using ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or OGS-specific systems like Quorum, Enertia).
Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
In-depth knowledge of IFRS/GAAP and oil & gas-specific accounting practices.
Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
