Job Overview:
We require a highly competent Project Manager at Al Sadi Trading Group (ATG) in Yemen. The Project Manager will be responsible for the strategic planning, execution, and successful delivery of all solar power projects undertaken by the Al Sadi Trading Group (ATG) in Yemen or other countries, including both small scale and large-scale projects around the world. The Project Manager will lead the entire projects division, overseeing engineering design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover to operations. The Project Manager will ensure that all projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards, while maintaining compliance with environmental regulations, client requirements, and international best practices. The position requires exceptional leadership, deep technical expertise in solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, and proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams, EPC contractors, consultants, and stakeholders. The Project Manager will act as the key interface between management, consultants, clients, and the project delivery teams to ensure successful execution and profitability of all projects.
Key Responsibilities:
?1.? ?Strategic Project Leadership
Lead the overall planning, coordination, and execution of all solar power projects (utility-scale and C&I) from start to finish. Develop and implement project execution strategies, ensuring alignment with the company's goals and client expectations. Oversee the full project lifecycle - from feasibility, design, and permitting to construction, commissioning, and handover. Prioritize and allocate resources according to project requirements. Set clear performance objectives, KPIs, and deliverables for project teams.
?2.? ?Engineering and Design Management
Supervise and execute all engineering design work (civil, electrical, mechanical, and structural) ensuring compliance with IEC, IEEE, NEC, and local standards. Approve system layouts, single-line diagrams, grounding systems, and cable sizing. Coordinate with design engineers to optimize plant performance, LCOE, and reliability. Review and approve technical documentation, drawings, and design revisions prior to execution. Ensure all design documents integrate seamlessly with procurement and construction plans.
?3.? ?Procurement and Supply Chain Oversight
Lead the preparation of technical specifications, BOQs, and tender documents for procurement. Evaluate and approve major equipment vendors (modules, inverters, transformers, SCADA , mounting structures, etc.). Oversee procurement scheduling to ensure materials are delivered in line with project timelines. Negotiate with suppliers and contractors to ensure cost-effectiveness without compromising quality. Manage logistics coordination for international shipments, insurance requirements of the projects, customs clearance, and transportation to site.
?4.? ?Construction Management
Supervise site mobilization, construction sequencing, and site execution for all projects. Ensure EPC contractors adhere to approved designs, schedules, and quality standards. Oversee installation of civil works (foundations, access roads, drainage systems), electrical systems (cabling, switchgear, substations), and mechanical structures (mounting systems, trackers, etc.)a and Overhead line. Monitor daily progress and implement corrective actions for schedule delays or resource inefficiencies. Manage interface coordination among civil, mechanical, and electrical teams. Enforce strict safety, health, and environmental (HSE) policies across all sites.
?5.? ?Project Controls, Scheduling, and Budget Management
Establish and monitor detailed project schedules using tools like Primavera P6 or MS Project. Track project progress through Earned Value Management (EVM) and other performance metrics. Prepare and manage project budgets, ensuring cost control and profitability. Identify cost deviations early and implement corrective financial and operational measures. Approve project change orders and variations, ensuring proper documentation and justifications.
?6.? ?Quality Assurance and Compliance
Implement and enforce robust Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) systems. Ensure all materials, equipment, and installations conform to project specifications and standards. Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and progress reviews. Coordinate with third-party consultants for quality verification and certification. Oversee the documentation of all quality records, test results, and as-built drawings.
?7.? ?Commissioning and Handover
Oversee the testing and commissioning of electrical, mechanical, and SCADA systems. Ensure successful synchronization with the grid and compliance with grid codes. Lead performance ratio (PR) testing and final acceptance tests (FAT/SAT). Prepare handover documentation, O&M manuals, and warranty schedules. Ensure seamless transition of projects to the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) team.
?8.? ?Stakeholder and Client Management
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, and regulatory bodies. Prepare and deliver high-level progress reports and presentations to management and clients. Manage relationships with government authorities, utilities, private sector and permitting agencies. Ensure all project communications are clear, professional, and aligned with contractual requirements. Address client concerns proactively to maintain satisfaction and trust.
?9.? ?Team Leadership and Development
Recruit, hire, train and build and lead a multidisciplinary team of project managers, engineers, planners, and site managers in Yemen. Mentor and train junior engineers and project personnel to strengthen internal capabilities. Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. Evaluate team performance and implement development plans for key staff. Ensure effective collaboration between departments (engineering, procurement, finance, legal, etc.). The Head of Projects should also assume the role of terminating and or replacing employees if necessary.
10.? ?Risk Management
Identify and assess project risks (technical, financial, environmental, and contractual). Develop mitigation and contingency plans for critical project risks. Ensure project insurance and guarantees are in place and compliant. Oversee compliance with all environmental and social impact mitigation requirements.
11.? ?Reporting and Documentation
Prepare periodic project progress reports, risk assessments, and cost tracking summaries on daily/weekly/monthly basis or as requested, Maintain comprehensive project documentation and ensure version control. Report to senior management on project health, cash flow forecasts, and performance metrics. Lead post-project reviews and lessons-learned sessions to improve future execution.
12.? ?Innovation and Continuous Improvement
Stay abreast of the latest trends in solar PV technology, construction methods, and digital project management tools. Recommend process optimizations to enhance cost-efficiency and reduce construction time. Implement advanced monitoring and control systems (SCADA, predictive maintenance). Promote sustainable construction practices and renewable energy innovation within the company. The Head of Projects should attend seminars, courses, forums etc to represent the company and to learn about the advancements in the sector.
13.? ?Budget and Financial Management
Develop and manage the project budget, ensuring all costs remain within agreed-upon limits, while reviewing and approving expenses to guarantee the efficient and cost-effective use of resources. Oversee the procurement of materials and services for the project, ensuring that all acquisitions align with the approved budget and contribute to the overall financial objectives.
Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, Renewable Energy, Construction Management, or a related field (Master's degree is a plus).
Experience:
Minimum of 10 years of experience in project management, preferably in the solar energy or construction industry.
Skills:
Strong understanding of solar power plant design, installation, and maintenance.
Knowledge of relevant industry standards, regulations, and environmental compliance.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to manage budgets and timelines effectively.
Certifications (optional):
Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification.
Solar-specific certifications (e.g., NABCEP) would be a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to visit project sites, including potential outdoor and construction environments.
Ability to lift and perform physical tasks as necessary on site.
