JOB PURPOSE

As a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Pure & Applied Chemistry Research Group at the Research Institute of Sciences and Engineering (RISE), you are expected to have a strong background in synthesis, especially in organometallic and coordination chemistry, as well as ligand design (organic). You will characterize the synthesized materials using FTIR, TGA, NMR, UV/Vis, SEM, TEM, XAFS, ICP-OES, and related techniques. You are also expected to study these materials in the area of heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis, such as C-C coupling, C-N coupling, oxidation, and reduction, as well as in small molecule activation, including CO? reduction to fuel or conversion to valuable products, and conversion of N? to NH? or related products.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES & EXPECTATIONS

Follow all University of Sharjah policies & regulations for safe working procedures. Work independently, but in close cooperation and consultation with the Pure & Applied Chemistry Research group coordinator and members. Perform routine and complex laboratory procedures. Develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols. Act as a research team leader, who is responsible for other projects and MSc students. Work with other team members in the group who conduct multidisciplinary research.

REQUIRED SKILLS

Professional in communication and writing skills. Design and execute experiments to synthesize and characterize new catalysts and organic compounds. Develop sustainable catalysts for various organic synthesis, preparing value added products and green materials.

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

Educational Background synthetic chemistry, or Inorganic/organometallicor related disciplines. Extensive hands-on experience in in catalysis, synthetic chemistry, and purification techniques. Experience in handling and analysis of spectroscopic data (NMR, UV/VIS/, GC/MS, FIIR, etc.). Experience in material characterization (SEM/TEM, XRD, XPS, Raman, AFM). Experience in mechanisms and kinetic studies using a variety of analytical techniques. Strong record in writing and publishing in scientific journal.

Track record of publications in peer-reviewed international journals related to chemistry.
