As a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Health Economics & Financing Research Group (HEFRG) at the Sharjah Institute for Medical Research (SIMR), you are expected to contribute to a dynamic and multidisciplinary research environment focused on digital health innovation. You are required to bring expertise and experience in healthcare software and systems, health policies, health finance, and health service management.
You are expected to support and coordinate ongoing epidemiological and digital health research projects, analyze complex datasets, and contribute to scientific publications and grant proposals. In addition, you are encouraged to propose and develop new research studies that align with the group's strategic focus on digital transformation in healthcare.
You are expected to explore and connect research opportunities within the University of Sharjah (UOS), as well as with external public/private stakeholders and international collaborators to expand the industrial and academic reach of the group. You are also expected to participate in scientific analysis--preferably involving novel technologies such as wearable devices, AI, and remote monitoring--and contribute to publishing the group's research findings while actively following up throughout the publication process.
Additionally, you will be responsible for carrying out assigned tasks from group members in coordination with the group coordinator, fostering effective collaboration and innovation within the research team.
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES & EXPECTATIONS
Conduct high-quality research in digital health, including study design, data analysis, and dissemination of findings.
Develop and test digital health tools, including mobile apps, telehealth systems, wearable devices, or data analytics platforms.
Play a central role in establishing and developing a Digital Health Lab at the University
Strategic Lab Development: Assist in designing the structure, goals, and research roadmap for the Digital Health Lab. Disseminate original research that supports the group's research agenda
Research Leadership: Lead and support high-impact digital health projects in areas such as mobile health, AI in healthcare, telemedicine, or data-driven health interventions.
Collaboration Building: Foster interdisciplinary collaborations with internal departments (e.g., faculty, staff, and project coordinators) and external stakeholders (e.g., industry, government, healthcare providers) ensure the timely delivery of key project milestones and high-quality research output.
Grant Writing & Funding: Contribute to the development of grant proposals to secure funding for lab infrastructure, personnel, and research activities.
Infrastructure Support: Help identify digital tools, platforms, and technologies to support the lab's research activities.
Knowledge Translation: Lead efforts to disseminate research findings through publications, reports, presentations, and stakeholder engagement.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Has experience developing health software and implementing digital technology in the health field.
Expertise in multi-level and integrated statistical data analysis and data management.
Proficient with data analytics and statistical software and other advanced technology like machine learning
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and preferably Arabic.
Excellent organizational, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
Educational background in either bioinformatics, medical informatics, epidemiology, public health, data science, biostatistics, EEE, or a related field
Has worked on digital health-related projects previously.
A strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals of recognized excellence
Preferably to have community contacts with related organizations to enhance the production of research in the health industry.
Must be motivated and can work proactively and independently.
