Job Description

Homeroom Teacher
Job Title: Homeroom Teacher (Elementary/Middle School)
Reports to: Grade Level Leader / Principal
Employment Type: Full-Time
Job Overview:
We are looking for a caring, organized, and proactive Homeroom Teacher to serve as the primary point of contact and advocate for a group of students. The Homeroom Teacher plays a crucial role in building a strong classroom community, monitoring students' academic and social-emotional well-being, and fostering effective communication between home and school. While specific teaching duties may vary (e.g., teaching a subject like Math or English), the core of this role is pastoral care and creating a supportive and structured start and end to each school day.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Pastoral Care & Student Well-being:
  • Serve as the primary advocate and support system for each student in the homeroom.
  • Monitor students' academic progress, social development, and emotional well-being, intervening and providing support as needed.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment where all students feel safe, valued, and connected.
  • Implement the school's social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum and character education programs.
  • Address student concerns and conflicts, promoting problem-solving and positive peer relationships.
  • Daily Operations & Communication:
  • Lead daily homeroom periods, including taking attendance, making announcements, and guiding students through the morning routine.
  • Act as the main link between the school and parents/guardians, communicating regularly about student progress, concerns, and school events through emails, phone calls, and conferences.
  • Write and distribute report card comments in collaboration with other subject teachers.
  • Coordination & Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with all subject teachers to get a holistic view of each student's progress and coordinate support strategies.
  • Meet regularly with the grade-level team and support staff (counselors, learning support) to discuss student needs and plan interventions.
  • Coordinate student-led conferences or parent-teacher conferences.
  • Administrative Duties:
  • Maintain accurate student records, including attendance, contact information, and health notes.
  • Supervise students during designated times, such as transitions, lunch, and recess (depending on level).
  • Instruction (if applicable):
  • Depending on the school structure, the Homeroom Teacher may also teach one or more core subjects (e.g., Math, Science, English, Social Studies) to their homeroom class.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
  • Valid state teaching certification for the relevant grade level.
  • Proven experience working with children in the specified age group.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • A genuine passion for supporting the holistic development of every child.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive, solution-oriented attitude.
