Job Purpose Consulting service is a strategic interface between KAUST and industry and government, capitalizing the depth and breadth of the University’s academic disciplines to provide short-term, rapid, impactful technical solutions. The Head, Technical Consultancy Development leads the expansion and growth of this service, working closely with the University’s divisions and research centres to deliver strategic initiatives through which consultancy can enhance the impact of their work and create new opportunities. He/she is also responsible for developing and implementing a new, centralized structure for effective delivery of the KAUST consulting services, with an aim to position KAUST consulting services as a leader in the industry. This position leads the business development efforts and stakeholders relationship function to generate new revenue streams for KAUST, and is responsible for providing a professional project administration and management service to researchers who engage in consultancy work. Major Accountabilities
- Works with the VP of KAUST Innovation and management team to set up the strategic goals of the KAUST consulting services and the annual strategic plans to achieve such goals
- Develops strong relationships of influence with senior and high-profile stakeholders both internally within the University and externally, including building strategic partnerships with industry and government entities
- With knowledge in the Kingdom’s and region’s consultancy market, identifies and capitalizes on growth areas, working with stakeholders to develop new opportunities to maximize turnover
- Coordinates cross-functional teams to plan and guide long-term growth
- Leads negotiation of project terms and conditions
- Collaborates with the Beacon Development Technical Director in the commercial assessment of new projects and manage risk assessment and go/no go decisions as required
- Works with the Department’s Head of Operations and Strategic Initiatives and Beacon
- Development Head of Operations to ensure project budgets are managed effectively, and advise best solutions for potential financial issues
- Conducts regular meeting with project managers to monitor the technical and commercial progress of each project
- Works with KAUST related departments to make sure the consulting services is fully aligned with internal policies and procedures.
- Produces regular management reports and create new reports as required
- Leads and inspires the team to ensure they are highly motivated, skilled, and developing professionally
- Working effectively with key senior stakeholders both internally and externally, positively influencing them and, where appropriate, showing creativity and resilience in strategic business situations
- Knowledge in consulting services market in the region with a wide network of industry and government entities
- Demonstrated strong capability in growing business opportunities and generating sustainable revenue streams
- Having broad-based senior management experience which will enable effective working relationships with specialist functions and experts from different professional disciplines

- Post graduate degree in science, engineering or combined degrees in science/engineering and business administration.
- A minimum experience of 10 years in leading consultancy activity, preferably with some experience with the Middle East.
- Working in roles of responsibility at the interface between industry and academia is an advantage.
