In 2017, the UAE published its National Climate Change Plan for 2050 serving as a roadmap to bolster nationwide actions for climate mitigation and in 2021 became the first Gulf petro-state to commit to fully decarbonise its economy and reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 with an investment of $6bn a year and a requirement to reduce emissions by 23% by 2030 and 50% of electricity from renewables by 2050. The UAE has ambitions programmes such as the $15bn of renewables energy programmes through the Masdar Initiatives. Other MENA states such as Saudi Arabia have launched exciting initiatives such as NEOM.
In August 2021 the UK government announced its low carbon hydrogen strategy with an increased ambition for 10GW of low carbon hydrogen production capacity by 2030 as part of its NetZero by 2050 targets.
These ambitions targets shows the global commitment to NetZero. A Net Zero Energy System will require the implementation of hydrogen (H2) production, transport and storage infrastructure at scale.
As part of the SNC-Lavalin group, we have experience in the development of different H2 projects covering different production sources as well as storage above ground and subsurface.
Our Global Energy Systems business was created to focus on Net Zero including the development and implementation of H2 energy infrastructure. We work with our clients across the project lifecycle and we are growing our team in order to deliver a variety of exciting, cutting edge projects.
We are looking for engineers with a track record in clean H2 projects who will:
Lead the delivery of complex and technically challenging H2 production, management, storage or downstream use projects

Providing services such as strategic advisory, concept development, technical specification, technology assessment and selection, technical due diligence and pre-FEED

Act as a subject matter expert in relation to clean H2 or a specific area of Hydrogen.

Develop our delivery capability and support recruitment for green H2 related opportunities for utility or industrial decarbonisation.

Develop and maintain relationships with our clients

Lead or support the development of key H2 opportunities by collaborating with key account managers on projects and clients of strategic importance
You will have:
A degree qualification (or equivalent) in chemical or process engineering or a related discipline, and working towards or is chartered with a suitable engineering Institution (Institution of Chemical Engineers, etc.)

Demonstrable experience in the leadership and delivery of complex clean H2 feasibility, concept design or owner's engineer projects.

Knowledge of hydrogen sector in one or more of the following: policy and regulations, production technology, storage technology, transport technology, hazards and safety assessment as well as hydrogen uses.

Experience in one or more of the following hydrogen process design: electrolysis, methane reformation and partial oxidation and fuel cells.

Proven record of analyzing process and market data and making recommendations for feasibility studies.

Knowledge of supplier, vendors and subcontractors in the green H2 space would be an advantage

Understanding of interfaces required for complex green H2 projects

Ability to build, motivate and train a team and demonstrate good leadership qualities.

Technoeconomic experience with hydrogen systems would be beneficial.

Track record of winning work and client engagement in the energy industry.
