Role Overview
VoPay is a fast-growing fintech company based in Vancouver, Canada. As we expand into the Middle East, we're seeking a General Accountant for our new Qatar office. The General Accountant will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting and financial operations. This includes maintaining financial records, preparing reports, ensuring compliance with Qatari laws and regulations (including tax and VAT), and supporting the finance department in budgeting, audits, and other financial tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and manage general ledger accounts, ensuring timely and accurate journal entries.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable activities.
Perform bank reconciliations and reconcile other financial accounts.
Prepare and process payroll in accordance with Qatar Labour Law.
Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
Manage petty cash, employee expenses, and related documentation.
Ensure compliance with Qatar tax and VAT regulations, including filings and record-keeping.
Coordinate with external auditors and assist during audit engagements.
Prepare financial analyses and reports for management review.
Support inventory tracking and fixed asset management.
Ensure financial records are maintained in line with company policies and internal controls.
Respond to internal and external financial queries and support audit requirements.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
3-5 years of relevant accounting experience
Solid understanding of accounting principles and standards (IFRS preferred).
Proficiency in accounting systems such as Tally, QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, or Odoo.
Strong Excel skills and experience in financial reporting.
Working knowledge of Qatar VAT and tax regulations.
Fluency in both English and Arabic.
Valid QID and NOC (for candidates currently in Qatar)
