Job Title: Floor Supervisor
Department: Operations / Front of House
Reports To: General Manager / Restaurant Manager
Job Overview:
The Floor Supervisor is the operational leader on the dining floor during service hours. This role is critical for ensuring seamless communication between the front and back of house, upholding service standards, and empowering the service team to deliver an exceptional guest experience. The Floor Supervisor acts as a problem-solver, a mentor to staff, and the primary point of contact for service-related issues, all while maintaining a calm and authoritative presence in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Service Execution & Flow:
  • Oversee the entire dining room, bar, and patio (if applicable) to ensure smooth and efficient service.
  • Manage table turnover by coordinating with the hostess team and service staff.
  • Monitor wait times and communicate effectively with waiting guests.
  • Anticipate peak periods and deploy staff resources strategically to meet demand.
  • Ensure all side work and opening/closing duties are completed to standard by the service team.
  • Team Leadership & Support:
  • Provide immediate support, guidance, and direction to servers, bussers, food runners, and hostesses.
  • Lead pre-shift meetings to communicate menu changes, specials, and service notes.
  • Act as a role model for professionalism, product knowledge, and guest interaction.
  • Delegate tasks effectively and fairly to ensure a balanced workload among staff.
  • Step in to assist any role (serving, hosting, bussing) during critical rushes to maintain service standards.
  • Guest Experience Management:
  • Proactively circulate through the dining room to greet guests, check on their experience, and build rapport.
  • Address and resolve guest complaints and issues promptly, diplomatically, and with a sense of urgency. Empowered to make on-the-spot decisions, such as offering comps or discounts, to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Handle special requests and VIP guests with discretion and extra care.
  • Quality Control & Standards:
  • Enforce all company policies, procedures, and health and safety standards.
  • Conduct regular line checks to ensure tables are set perfectly, clean, and ready for guests.
  • Monitor food presentation and timing in the pass-through area, liaising with the kitchen to rectify any issues.
  • Ensure all staff are adhering to uniform and grooming standards.
  • Administrative Duties:
  • Assist in managing reservations and walk-ins during service.
  • May be responsible for cashing out servers and processing end-of-shift reports.
  • Complete shift logs, noting any incidents, maintenance issues, or inventory needs.
  • Provide performance feedback to management and contribute to staff evaluations.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a full-service restaurant, with at least 1 year in a leadership role (e.g., Senior Server, Captain).
  • Extensive knowledge of fine dining steps of service and POS systems.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage a diverse team under pressure.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, conflict-resolution, and decision-making skills.
  • Outstanding verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to be on your feet for extended periods and lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
