Job Description
Fishmonger is responsible for preparing, selling, and displaying fresh seafood while ensuring high standards of hygiene and customer service. They handle fish cutting, filleting, and portioning while advising customers on different types of seafood, cooking methods, and storage.
Key Responsibilities:
Select, clean, prepare, and fillet fish and seafood products. Maintain the quality and freshness of seafood by proper storage and handling and weigh, package, and label fish for customers. Monitor stock levels and order new supplies when necessary. Ensure a clean and hygienic work environment, following food safety regulations. Operate cutting tools and weighing scales safely and efficiently. Display seafood attractively to enhance sales. Handle payments and maintain accurate sales records. Dispose of waste properly and adhere to environmental regulations.
Skills & Qualifications:
Knowledge of different types of seafood, their preparation, and storage. Strong knife skills for cutting and filleting fish. Good customer service and communication skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Basic math skills for weighing and pricing. Understanding of food safety and hygiene regulations. Physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift heavy loads.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in fishmongering, seafood retail, or a similar role.
