with a strong engineering background to support cost estimation for metal fabrication, machining, and structural components. The role involves interpreting customer drawings, calculating dimensions and weights, selecting appropriate materials, and preparing accurate cost estimates for manufacturing and fabrication projects.
Key Responsibilities
Review and interpret customer-provided drawings (2D/3D) including fabrication, machining, and structural drawings
Calculate component dimensions, volumes, and
accurate weights
based on drawings and material specifications
Prepare detailed cost estimates covering materials, fabrication, machining, welding, finishing, and outsourced processes
Select appropriate materials based on mechanical requirements, standards, and application (carbon steel, stainless steel, alloys, etc.)
Understand and evaluate
structural design aspects
, including load paths, thickness requirements, and fabrication feasibility
Coordinate with engineering, production, and procurement teams to validate assumptions and costs
Analyze BOMs (Bill of Materials) and verify quantities and specifications
Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or design intent
Maintain estimation records and pricing databases for reference and future projects
Support tender submissions, quotations, and technical clarifications with customers
Required Qualifications & Skills
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field
Strong ability to read and interpret
engineering and structural drawings
Excellent knowledge of
materials
, including steel grades, alloys, and fabrication practices
Solid understanding of
structural components
, welding, and fabrication methods
Proficiency in calculating weights, areas, volumes, and material take-offs
Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, fabrication, and surface treatment
Good working knowledge of CAD drawings (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar - viewing and interpretation)
High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple estimates simultaneously
Preferred Experience
Experience in heavy fabrication, oil & gas, mining, or industrial manufacturing environments
Prior experience in estimation or costing roles within engineering or fabrication companies
Knowledge of international standards (ASTM, ASME, EN, etc.) is an advantage
What We Offer
Exposure to complex engineering and fabrication projects
Competitive salary based on experience
Opportunity to work closely with engineering and production teams
Growth potential within a technically driven manufacturing environment
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From AED2,500.00 per month
Application Question(s):
A steel plate is 2000 x 1500 x 20 mm. How would you calculate its weight, and what density would you use?
What tools do you typically use to calculate weights and prepare estimates?
