ROLE SUMMARY

As Emerging Gulf (Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar) Country Director, this role plays a critical role in leading and managing the business unit's strategies, operations, and overall performance. Plans, directs, and leads the execution of business strategy and achievement of key performance indicators. Provides leadership to ensure the full integration of all country sales and major initiatives that support the achievement of countries? targets, including P&L. Responsible for driving International and Regional initiatives into the countries? businesses and monitoring and measuring performance against objectives.

What you?ll do

Market Development/Revenue Growth

  • Overall management for AstraZeneca in respective geographies across the four countries (Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar)

  • Guides the annual business plan and specific market-focused strategies to grow the business profitably.

  • Guides the development of market strategies aimed at building brand awareness and customer loyalty.

  • Responsible for sales execution within geographies (in-market & ex-factory)

  • Responsible for budgetary compliance

  • Leads activities across brands, including the definition, design, execution, and measurement of all marketing strategies and tactics to deliver on the brands? objectives

  • Develops and nurtures customer relationships with key opinion leaders and government officials, and may also play an active role in establishing distributor agreements and maintaining those relationships.

  • Engages in developing and leading major strategic sales initiatives and participates selectively in developing, negotiating, and managing major accounts.

  • Manages relationships with Distributors and key government stakeholders

Functional Excellence

  • Leads the sales process by ensuring sales managers demonstrate the AZ values and ways of working in the daily activities, guides, evaluates and develops them to ensure that the product/country/functional area achieves its business objectives and complies with all relevant regulations and laws

  • Ensures the appropriate (right people and right number) marketing resources dedicated to each area based on current revenues, profit, and future potential, and leads the implementation and follow-up of activities embedded in High-Performance Marketing Management.

  • Directs and guides the plans, activities, and performance of staff members across the respective geographies.

  • Supports the Finance function in developing and implementing sound financial practices and ensures resources are targeted to meeting local and Finance strategic priorities.

  • Represents the organization at public occasions and in interactions with external parties in order to present a positive image of the organization.

  • Ensures that all conducted activities are done in accordance with local legislation and corporate standards.

  • Ensures the direct reports are aware of Corporate Responsibility expectations and follow them in daily work

Essential for the role

  • University degree in Medicine, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Business Administration and/or Marketing.

  • Strong business knowledge and market understanding

  • A minimum of 10 years of management experience in multinational companies, 5 years of which in a senior management capacity

  • Proven record of strong commercial performance in leading medium-sized country or large-scale organizations/BU, along with P&L management experience

  • Experience in leading cross-functional teams executing against multi-disciplinary strategies (sales, marketing, medical, market access, etc.).

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills are critical.

  • Evidence of increased scale & complexity of accountabilities throughout the career

  • Strategic thinking and customer orientation with an ability to network and influence stakeholders locally and globally

  • Evidence of generating exceptional results by driving performance and collaborating across boundaries

  • Ability to translate insights from the external ecosystem into actionable plans to optimize performance

  • Previous or current experience sitting in a leadership team in a Director capacity

Desirable for the role

  • Both sales and marketing experience, diversified experience across different portfolios

  • Risk management - Balance risks and rewards in managing operational, reputational, and financial aspects both internally and externally in the market

  • Experience of living and working outside of own country, having a diverse experience.

  • Demonstrated continuous personal growth and learning agility throughout the leadership journey.

  • Experience in developing and executing Therapeutic Area (TA) or brand strategies globally, demonstrating strong organizational acumen, patient-centricity, and scientific knowledge.

  • In-depth knowledge and expertise in one or more TAs. Has led a TA or brand, including launch experience, in relevant emerging &/or matured market settings as required. Desirable GPPS experience

  • Experience in building high performing organizations, with capable and engaged teams and optimal culture
