Job Description

The Commis Chef - Chinese Cuisine is responsible for assisting in the preparation and production of authentic Chinese dishes under the guidance of senior chefs. This role requires a strong willingness to learn, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment. The ideal candidate should have a basic understanding of Chinese cooking techniques and ingredients.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in the preparation of ingredients (chopping, marinating, portioning) for wok, dim sum, roasting, or noodle sections. Support the Chef de Partie and other senior chefs in daily kitchen operations. Cook basic dishes under supervision, ensuring high quality and authentic taste. Ensure all mise en place is prepared ahead of service time. Adhere strictly to recipes, preparation methods, and portion control. Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in work areas in accordance with food safety standards. Properly store food items and monitor stock levels of ingredients. Assist in receiving deliveries and checking quality and quantity. Learn and apply traditional Chinese culinary techniques including stir-frying, steaming, braising, and roasting. Perform other related duties as assigned by the chef team.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Minimum 1 year experience in a professional kitchen; exposure to Chinese cuisine preferred. Culinary diploma or certification is an advantage but not required. Basic knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices. Passion for Chinese food and a strong willingness to learn and grow. Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team. Physically fit, able to stand for long periods and work under pressure. Flexible with working hours, including weekends and holidays.
