Job Description

Emirates Nature-WWF is initiating a new climate change and decarbonization project and looking for a project manager to oversee and implement the activities of the project. The project’s vision is to create an alliance of stakeholders to increase momentum of net-zero targets and implementation and see greater collaboration to achieve the Paris Agreement. The key elements of the project are to ramp up momentum and climate action to increase non-state actor readiness to set net-zero targets and to activate the Marrakesh Partnership at the UAE level to bring together stakeholders to enhance the enabling policy environment for an economy-wide decarbonization. The project manager will support EN-WWF’s Climate Unit and the organization overall in playing a key role locally in climate projects, lead generation and general planning in the run up to COP28 and post-COP28. The project manager will oversee all aspects of project coordination and ensure the successful delivery of the project’s objectives, goals, outcomes and activities. These include but are not limited to the delivery ofstrategic and technical outcomes, delivery of project activities, communications coordination, budgettracking and stakeholder management. They will also lead on coordination of events, secure partners, work collaboratively across internal departments and with external private and public sector stakeholders.
The successful candidate should have sound knowledge and working experience in climate changepolicies, greenhouse gas measurement, key mitigation and decarbonization strategies and be knowledgeable about the UAE’s domestic climate change landscape. They will have the capacity and willingness to deliver on a variety of different tasks from technical greenhouse gas inventory assessment to event management and coordination, to drafting and developing relevant decarbonization guidance documents and coordinating with global and local stakeholders. Experience in science-based targets methodology would be a plus.
Key responsibilities
Project Implementation and technical input
  • Support stakeholders in their decarbonization journey by providing technical guidance and assistance, support in sourcing methodologies, and more
  • Research and create related content, training tools, knowledge products, reports, research and whitepapers that support the key activities of the project related to decarbonization
  • Keep informed of local, regional and international developments in the topic of decarbonizations, climate change, international cooperation, climate negotiation processes and more in order to delivery curated and supportive information to stakeholders
  • Coordinate with international stakeholders and local stakeholders to find synergies and advance the decarbonization objectives of the project
  • Lead and provide strategic oversight of the project to ensure timely and effectively delivery of results/outputs.
  • Manage the development and monitoring of project workplans and budgets; work closely with the finance manager on finance reporting and budget tracking
  • Develop and administer Terms of Reference and Contracts of external consultants, as well as ensure timely and high-quality submission of agreed deliverables and outputs
  • Manage project consultants and work with internal cross functional team members to ensure successful delivery of projects (as relevant)
  • Identify project risks and together with impact manager oversee risk management and monitoring and evaluation framework
  • Work closely with partners, advisors, and donors of the project to ensure timely and consistent communications on project’s progress, successes and upcoming milestones
  • Work closely with alliance members to co-create and collect feedback to co-design research papers, reports and develop surveys
  • Develop policy engagement tools and coordinate with stakeholders on technical decarbonization inputs and ideas to deliver high quality research and thought leadership
  • Plan and deliver successful high-level and policy workshops, roundtables, dialogues and events to reach desired outcome along with stakeholders and partners
  • Identify opportunities to increase impact of members by supporting them through technical greenhouse gas inventory support, in implementing greenhouse gas reduction strategies and guiding members through decarbonization guidance documents and resources
Business Development and Project Design
  • Work with donors to deliver transparent reporting and communications
  • Develop climate related concept notes and proposals for donors, identify key project partnerships and identify project resource needs
  • Liaise with other units and integrate interdisciplinary input in project design
Research and Design
  • Conduct climate related policy research, to develop locally relevant briefs for ENWWF on decarbonization and mitigation strategies
  • Conduct research and concept notes for key components of the project based on international best-case practices and local stakeholder needs
  • Provide support and develop content in thought leadership pieces, blogs and ENWWF communications on decarbonization and climate topics
  • Support the organization in identifying new and managing strategic partnerships and relationships with stakeholders
  • Represent ENWWF in technical meetings and government led workshops and present project in speaking opportunities
Advise and integrate best practice and best available science in ENWWF portfolio
  • Keep abreast with international best practices and regional activities linked to decarbonization to ensure that the solutions that EN-WWF offers are always relevant with the global (including WWF relevant priority areas) and local context.
  • Provide input and offer technical presentations to ENWWF staff, stakeholders and volunteers on project to build capacity and alignment
  • Advise on communication campaigns related to climate and decarbonization.
  • Support in communications, thought leadership and coordination for COP27 and COP28.
Required Qualifications
Experience
  • 7+ years of experience in relevant field with a strong working background in decarbonization, net-zero target setting, greenhouse gas management and climate change policy and/or climate strategy consulting.
  • Experience in all aspects of project design and management (e.g. planning, funding proposal development, monitoring and reporting)
  • Strong experience in research and writing in the topics of decarbonization and climate change policies and the ability to identify links and recommendations fit for purpose
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, & experience in climate change &/or sustainability related policy processes including engagement with government organizations.
  • Research, analytical & problem-solving skills, incl. an ability to identify strategic issues & develop innovative responses to achieve outcomes.
  • Working knowledge of advocacy, interpersonal, presentation, verbal & written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated track record in stakeholder engagement, partnership development and reporting.
Education/skills
  • Undergraduate degree in environmental science, climate change and energy or relevant field. Post-graduate/graduate degree considered a plus.
  • Fluency in English is essential. Knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable

Working relationships
