Job Title: Chancellor
Reports To: Board of Trustees / University Council
Job Summary:
The Chancellor serves as the Chief Executive Officer and the academic head of the University. This individual provides visionary leadership and strategic direction to advance the University's mission, academic excellence, research initiatives, and global reputation. The Chancellor is responsible for the overall administration, operational efficiency, and financial health of the institution, while fostering a culture of innovation, integrity, and inclusivity.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Governance:

  • Develop and execute the University's long-term strategic plan in alignment with its vision and mission.
  • Lead the University's accreditation efforts and ensure compliance with all national (including DOH/CAA) and international educational standards and regulations.
  • Preside over the University Senate and serve as the primary liaison with the Board of Trustees, government bodies, and regulatory agencies.
  • Represent the University at local, national, and international forums.
Academic Leadership:
  • Foster a culture of academic excellence, research, and scholarly activity across all faculties.
  • Oversee the development and enhancement of academic programs, ensuring they are innovative, relevant, and meet the highest standards.
  • Promote interdisciplinary research and secure funding for major research projects.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain a world-class faculty and staff.
Administrative & Financial Management:
  • Hold overall responsibility for the University's financial sustainability, including budget preparation, resource allocation, and financial controls.
  • Oversee the management of all University operations, including student affairs, human resources, infrastructure, and campus services.
  • Drive fundraising campaigns and build strong relationships with alumni, donors, and industry partners.
Stakeholder Engagement & Community Building:
  • Be the public face of the University, effectively communicating its values and achievements to all stakeholders.
  • Cultivate a vibrant, diverse, and inclusive campus community for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Build strategic partnerships with other universities, research institutions, and the corporate sector.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • License/Accreditation: A valid DOH (Department of Health - for medical universities) or CAA (Commission for Academic Accreditation) license/approval for the designated role, or be a qualified DOH/CAA passer as per the regulatory requirements for a University Chancellor. [Note: This requirement is interpreted here as meeting the national accreditation standards for a senior academic leader.]
  • Education: An earned Terminal Degree (e.g., Ph.D.) or a distinguished Professional Qualification (e.g., MD, MBA) from a recognized institution. An outstanding academic record is essential.
  • Experience: A minimum of 8 years of progressive, post-specialization senior leadership experience in higher education administration, such as President, Vice-Chancellor, Provost, or Dean of a major faculty.
  • Leadership & Skills:
  • Proven track record of strategic planning and successful implementation in a complex academic environment.
  • Demonstrated success in financial management, fundraising, and resource development.
  • Exceptional communication, diplomatic, and public speaking skills.

  • A visionary with the ability to inspire and mobilize an entire academic community.
