The BTU Meter Technician/Reader will be responsible for the accurate and timely reading, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of BTU (British Thermal Unit) meters installed across properties. This role is crucial for ensuring precise billing for cooling services and maintaining efficient operations within the Billing & Collection department. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
Meter Reading:
Conduct regular, scheduled readings of BTU meters across various building using handheld devices or other designated tools.
Ensure accuracy of readings and promptly report any discrepancies or anomalies.
Record and log meter data meticulously, adhering to established procedures and deadlines.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
Perform routine visual inspections of BTU meters and associated components to identify any signs of damage, tampering, or malfunction.
Conduct basic troubleshooting of common meter issues (e.g., display errors, communication problems).
Escalate complex technical issues to senior technicians or relevant departments for resolution.
Assist in the installation, calibration, and replacement of BTU meters as required.
Data Management & Reporting:
Upload collected meter data to the central billing system accurately and efficiently.
Generate basic reports on meter readings, discrepancies, and maintenance activities.
Maintain organized records of meter locations, serial numbers, and service history.
Customer Interaction:
Interact professionally with residents, property management, and other stakeholders during meter reading and maintenance activities.
Address basic inquiries regarding meter readings or direct complex queries to the appropriate department.
Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies while on-site.
Compliance & Quality:
Ensure all activities comply with company policies, procedures, and relevant industry standards.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of meter reading and maintenance processes.
Participate in training programs to enhance technical knowledge and skills.
Qualifications
ITI / Diploma
Technical certification (ITI/diploma) in Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, or a related field is highly preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably within utilities, facilities management, or a real estate environment.
Proven experience with meter reading (BTU, water, electricity, etc.) and basic maintenance.
Skills & Competencies:
Proficiency in using handheld meter reading devices and relevant software.
Basic understanding of HVAC systems and cooling principles.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data collection.
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
