Job Description

The Specialty Coffee Barista is responsible for preparing high-quality specialty coffee beverages using various manual brewing methods and espresso techniques. The role ensures excellent customer service, consistent drink quality, and proper maintenance of coffee equipment while maintaining cafe cleanliness and standards.

Key Responsibilities1. Coffee Preparation

Job Summary

Prepare espresso-based drinks (espresso, latte, cappuccino, flat white, piccolo, cortado, etc.) Perform manual brewing:

V60, Chemex, Aeropress, French Press, Cold Brew

Maintain accuracy in dosing, grinding, tamping, extraction time, and latte art Ensure consistency of taste, quality, and presentation Calibrate grinders daily and adjust espresso recipes based on bean profile

2. Customer Service

Greet customers and take orders professionally Explain menu items and specialty coffee origins/processes Handle customer feedback politely and professionally Promote cafe signature drinks and new items

3. Operations & Hygiene

Follow all food safety and hygiene standards (HACCP) Maintain a clean bar, equipment, and work area Follow opening, closing, and daily cleaning checklists Monitor stock levels for milk, beans, syrups, brewing tools, etc. Report maintenance issues immediately

4. Equipment Handling

Maintain and clean espresso machines, grinders, brewers, and brewing tools Ensure proper functioning of equipment Backflush espresso machine and perform routine cleaning

5. Teamwork & Reporting

Assist colleagues during busy hours Support inventory counting and ordering Report wastage, customer concerns, and operational issues to the Manager

Skills & Qualifications Required Skills

Strong knowledge of specialty coffee Experience with espresso extraction and latte art Knowledge of manual brewing methods Good communication and customer service skills Ability to work under pressure Basic math skills (for recipes and POS handling)

Qualifications

Minimum

1-2 years' experience

as a barista in a specialty cafe Basic understanding of coffee origins and processing Food safety certification is an advantage

Physical Requirements

Standing for long periods Lifting up to 10 kg (coffee bags, milk cartons, equipment)
