Position Overview

The Automobile Workshop Foreman is responsible for overseeing daily workshop operations, ensuring high-quality vehicle servicing and repairs, and managing the workshop team efficiently. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in automotive systems, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities1. Workshop Operations Management

Supervise all repair and maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. Allocate jobs to technicians based on skill level and workload. Monitor workflow and ensure timely completion of tasks. Inspect vehicles post-repair to ensure work quality and adherence to specifications.

2. Technical Expertise

Diagnose complex vehicle issues and provide technical guidance to the team. Stay updated on the latest automotive technologies and repair techniques. Assist technicians in troubleshooting and resolving challenging problems.

3. Team Leadership and Development

Lead, motivate, and mentor the workshop team to achieve high performance. Conduct regular training sessions to enhance technical and operational skills. Evaluate employee performance and provide constructive feedback.

4. Customer Interaction

Communicate with customers to understand their vehicle issues and explain repair processes. Provide accurate cost estimates and timeframes for repairs. Address customer complaints and ensure their satisfaction.

5. Inventory and Resource Management

Ensure adequate availability of tools, equipment, and spare parts. Maintain an organized and clean workshop environment. Coordinate with the procurement team to order parts and supplies as needed.

6. Reporting and Documentation

Prepare daily reports on workshop activities, including job progress and productivity. Maintain detailed records of repairs, parts used, and technician assignments. Report any operational issues to the Workshop Manager.

Required Skills and QualificationsTechnical Skills

Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing various automobile systems (engine, transmission, electrical, suspension, etc.). Strong knowledge of diagnostic tools, equipment, and software. Familiarity with workshop safety protocols and procedures.

Leadership Skills

Proven experience managing a team in a workshop or similar environment. Ability to delegate tasks effectively and maintain a collaborative team spirit.

Customer Service Skills

Strong communication skills to explain technical issues to non-technical customers. Ability to handle customer complaints professionally and diplomatically.

Qualifications

Diploma or degree in Automobile Engineering or a related field. Minimum 5 years of experience as a technician, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role. Certification in Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) or equivalent is an advantage.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Workshop efficiency and productivity. Customer satisfaction and retention rates. Reduction in repair turnaround time. Quality of work and adherence to safety standards.

Working Conditions

Full-time position. May require extended hours during peak times. Work environment includes exposure to noise, grease, and heavy equipment.
