Operate handwheels and valves to precisely control the angle and height of the screed.
Monitor the flow and distribution of asphalt material coming through the paver.
Ensure uniform distribution of asphalt across the road surface.
Use depth gauges to verify the compacted asphalt meets specified depth requirements.
Adjust the screed to eliminate voids and ensure proper joints.
May install and remove screed extensions to adjust paving width.
Communication and Coordination:
Signal the paving machine operator to start, stop, and adjust speed as needed.
Coordinate with other crew members, including the paver operator and dump truck drivers, to ensure a continuous paving process.
Maintenance and Cleaning:
Perform daily maintenance on tools and the screed, ensuring they are in good working order.
Clean excess asphalt and debris from the paver and screed.
Ensure proper storage of tools at the end of each shift.
May assist with basic preventative maintenance of the paver.
