As an Accountant you are requested to support the integrity of accounting and financial decision-making information at the Finance Department by ensuring that all financial records, transactions and reports are constantly up to standard, updated and maintained and are always in compliance with the University of Sharjah's policies and procedures.
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES & EXPECTATIONS
1. Receive and process scholarship and student aid applications from UoS students, and assig n pre-approved or suitable scholarship/sponsorship to eligible students as per the approved policies and conditions.
2. Ensure new and current sponsor accounts are created and updated, as well as perform any necessary adjustments such as credit notes, debit notes, etc. and perform manual adjustments when and if needed.
3. Complete the scholarship/sponsorship and discount processes including processing sponsorship letters/approvals, recording/updating sponsorship details and conditions, assigning scholarship/sponsorship, and applying various distinction or employee discounts to eligible students based on official approvals.
4. Liaise between students and their sponsors, and ensure to keep sponsors constantly updated regarding their student's academic status such as semester/overall GPA, course/semester/permanent withdrawals, disciplinary actions, etc.
5. Process students' stipends on behalf of their sponsors, as well as issue any other financial claims and the invoices in order to send them to the sponsors. In addition to following up with sponsors regarding any outstanding amounts.
6. Handle the clearance process for sponsored students using the designated (manual or automated) system and follow up with the concerned colleges and departments when needed in order to complete the process and avoid delays.
7. Ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting procedures and UOS bylaws at all times, and report any matters of concern to the line manager. As well as ensure
REQUIRED SKILLS
Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to prepare professional documents, in both Arabic and English.
Excellent working knowledge of personal computer applications with an emphasis on MS Office applications such as Excel, Word, and Teams.
A strong understanding of basic accounting principles, including ledgers, journal entries, and reconciliation processes.
Exceptional accuracy is required for verifying and matching invoices, purchase orders, and expense reports to ensure all data is correct before processing payments.
Experience with financial software is a must, specifically with the Banner system, to accurately enter data, manage accounts, and process payments.
Ability to review, understand, and ensure strict compliance with internal financial and accounting procedures, as well as the University's bylaws.
Strong ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and handle a high volume of transactions efficiently to meet deadlines.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a relevant discipline.
A professional qualification as a chartered accountant or qualified member of an accountancy body.
2-4 years of UAE experience in a similar role, preferably in higher education institutions.
Priority is to UAE Nationals.
