AC Technician (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Technician)
Job Title: AC Technician / HVAC/R Technician
Reports To: HVAC Manager or Field Supervisor
Occupation Summary: An AC Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. They ensure optimal system performance, energy efficiency, and indoor air quality for customers.
Key Responsibilities
Installation:

• Install new HVAC/R systems, including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, ductwork, thermostats, and refrigeration units according to manufacturer specifications and local codes.
• Perform system start-ups and checks to ensure proper operation and efficiency.
• Measure, cut, and assemble refrigerant lines, electrical wiring, and piping.

Maintenance:

• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on HVAC/R systems to ensure longevity and efficiency.
• Clean coils, blowers, fans, filters, and other system components.
• Inspect electrical connections, motors, and components for safety and performance.
• Check refrigerant levels and system pressures; identify and seal leaks.

Repair & Troubleshooting:

• Diagnose mechanical and electrical malfunctions in HVAC/R systems.
• Repair or replace defective parts, components, or entire systems.
• Recharge systems with the correct type and amount of refrigerant.
• Troubleshoot complex control system issues, including thermostats and building automation systems.

Customer Service & Communication:

• Communicate clearly with customers to explain problems, proposed solutions, and costs.
• Provide accurate estimates for repairs or new installations.
• Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
• Ensure customer satisfaction by completing jobs neatly and efficiently.

Administrative:

• Complete detailed service reports, invoices, and work orders.
• Manage inventory of parts and tools in the service vehicle.
• Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Skills

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a post-secondary technical school program in HVAC is highly preferred.
• Certification: EPA Section 608 Certification (mandatory for handling refrigerants). Additional certifications (e.g., NATE) are a significant advantage.
• Experience: Proven experience as an AC Technician or Apprentice.
• Technical Skills:
• In-depth knowledge of HVAC/R systems and components.
• Proficiency with tools including multimeters, gauges, leak detectors, vacuum pumps, and power tools.
• Understanding of electrical circuits, wiring diagrams, and plumbing for HVAC systems.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy equipment (50+ lbs), work in extreme temperatures, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
• Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, customer service, and time-management skills. Must be detail-oriented.
