Direct Reports: Workshop Supervisors, Lead Technicians, Mechanics, Technicians, Storekeepers, Administrative Assistant.
About the Role:
We are a leading equipment rental company seeking an experienced and hands-on Workshop Manager to lead the maintenance and repair operations for our fleet of approximately 50 heavy earthmoving machines (excavators, dozers, loaders, etc.). You will be responsible for ensuring our equipment is safe, reliable, and ready to work, directly impacting our operational success and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the Workshop Team:
Schedule, supervise, and mentor a team of mechanics and technicians. Foster a culture of safety, quality, and efficiency.
Drive Maintenance Programs:
Implement and oversee preventive maintenance schedules to maximize equipment uptime and lifespan.
Manage Repairs:
Diagnose complex issues, prioritize repair jobs, and ensure all work is completed correctly, on time, and within budget.
Control Inventory & Costs:
Manage the parts inventory, source suppliers, and control workshop spending to meet financial targets.
Uphold Safety Standards:
Enforce strict safety protocols for all workshop activities and ensure compliance with all regulations.
Maintain Records:
Use maintenance software to accurately document all repairs, services, and equipment history.
What We're Looking For (Requirements):
Experience:
Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience repairing heavy earthmoving equipment. Minimum 3+ years in a supervisory or team lead role.
Technical Knowledge:
Deep understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems in heavy machinery.
Leadership Skills:
Proven ability to manage, train, and motivate a technical team.
Organizational Skills:
Strong ability to plan workloads, manage multiple priorities, and keep a busy workshop running smoothly.
Problem-Solver:
Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
Communication:
Clear and effective communicator, both with your team and company management.
Safety-First Mindset:
A relentless commitment to workplace safety.
Nice-to-Have (Preferred Qualifications):
Formal technical certification (e.g., from Caterpillar, Komatsu, etc.).
Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
Budget management experience.
