A Veterinary Doctor is responsible for the medical and surgical treatment of animals, as well as preventative healthcare and client education. The role requires both technical expertise and a compassionate approach to animal care.
Key Responsibilities:
Examine animals to assess their health and diagnose illnesses or injuries
Perform surgeries, including spaying/neutering and emergency procedures
Administer vaccinations and prescribe medication or treatment plans
Interpret diagnostic tests such as X-rays, blood work, and ultrasounds
Provide dental care, wound treatment, and general health checks
Advise pet owners on nutrition, exercise, and general care
Maintain detailed patient records and medical histories
Ensure compliance with veterinary ethics and animal welfare standards
Collaborate with veterinary technicians, assistants, and support staff
Stay updated on advancements in veterinary medicine and attend training or seminars
Qualifications:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited institution
Valid license to practice veterinary medicine
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work with various animals with patience and compassion
Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends or on-call shifts
