The Role


Oxfam GB is looking for a senior advisor to join our Valuing Women\xe2\x80\x99s Work team. The role will support delivery of our strategy on valuing women\xe2\x80\x99s work which focuses on women informal workers and unpaid workers and their collective claiming of rights, the shifting of narrative around their work in the economy and society, and the shifting of metrics and economic performance frameworks to ensure economic policies reflect the centrality of their work.
We are looking for a senior advisor who will provide outstanding technical leadership and support to country and programme teams, including building evidence and learning, thought leadership, and working with partners. The precise technical focus and leadership area of the post will be defined at the time of appointment, in discussion with the incoming postholder, but will be in the area of feminist budgeting (tax, social protection, services, infrastructure investment), informal and unpaid workers\xe2\x80\x99 rights and protections, care and macro economy or social norms and narratives.
The role will provide feminist leadership development, facilitation and peer to peer support, and training, mentoring, coaching, advising to programme teams and countries and partners.

What we are looking for


Our next senior advisor will have strong technical knowledge and practical skills, competencies and experience in feminist support and collaboration, in pursuit of women\xe2\x80\x99s economic justice and activism. The right candidates will bring:
  • Strong technical experience and understanding of, and commitment to, approaches to women\xe2\x80\x99s economic justice
  • Strong technical knowledge, from southern feminist decolonial perspective and experience of having worked in contexts of programming, in one of the following areas:

A) women informal and unpaid care workers: rights and related public and / or corporate policies, unionisation including home based, representation and collective bargaining
B) feminist fiscal justice/macro economy/care economy: fiscal justice and budget accountability including around tax, social protection, services and infrastructure, debt, austerity, feminist economic data, metrics and indicator frameworks, southern feminist economic leadership and activism
C) social and economic norms, narratives and the interplay between them, in relation to women\xe2\x80\x99s work and in diverse contexts, as well as behaviour change and narrative shift strategies
  • Experience of mobilising internal and external stakeholders around a vision for a major area of work and driving change within an organisation.
  • Significant experience in programme design and development processes, and fundraising targeting institutional and other donors.
  • The ability to take a holistic \xe2\x80\x98systems\xe2\x80\x99 thinking approach build synergy between technical approaches, and bridge what is ambitious and what is practical.
  • Skills and competence in feminist facilitation methods and peer to peer support, use of participatory and inclusive learning methods and tools
  • Demonstrated experience of successful organising, campaigning, policy, influencing around policy, practice and / or norm and behaviour change, working with / in coalitions. unions and/or women\xe2\x80\x99s organisations.
  • Experience in research, analysis and communication of complex information to a wide audience, using a range of methods and tools.
  • Experience working to actively support the diverse and collective leadership and agency of women\xe2\x80\x99s rights or workers groups
  • Experience at national or sub national levels working within MENA, HECA, Southern Africa or Asia regions.
  • Good understanding. commitment and ideally experience embedding and continuously learning to embed a decolonial, safe, anti-racist, intersectional feminist and partner led approach in your work.

We would especially welcome candidates with any or all of the following:
  • Working knowledge of other languages used in Oxfam (g., French, Spanish, Arabic)
  • Lived experiences with intersecting systems of oppression, with knowledge and experience of how power and privilege play out in the countries we work with, including the UK
  • Experience managing performance of others and helping people to develop, grow and achieve their potential.
  • Active and networked in feminist anti-racist movements
