Upper Primary (Grades 3-5) - English Teacher
Position: English & Language Arts Teacher
Reporting To: Upper Primary Coordinator / Head of School
Job Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and creative English Teacher to inspire our Upper Primary students (Grades 3-5) on their literacy journey. You will be responsible for building a strong foundation in reading, writing, grammar, and oral communication, fostering a lifelong love for literature and self-expression. The ideal candidate creates a dynamic, print-rich environment where students feel confident to explore language and develop their unique voice.
Key Responsibilities:

• Curriculum & Instruction: Design and deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons aligned with curriculum standards, focusing on reading comprehension strategies, creative and structured writing, grammar fundamentals, spelling, and vocabulary development.
• Differentiated Learning: Implement differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners, providing support for emerging readers/writers and extension for advanced students.
• Literacy Culture: Promote a love of reading through read-alouds, literature circles, independent reading programs, and author studies.
• Assessment: Use a variety of formative and summative assessments (e.g., writing portfolios, reading conferences, quizzes) to monitor progress and guide instruction.
• Classroom Environment: Create a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive classroom community that encourages risk-taking, collaboration, and respectful discussion.
• Communication: Maintain regular, clear communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress, classroom activities, and ways to support learning at home.
• Collaboration: Work closely with grade-level teammates, learning support staff, and the library to integrate themes and support holistic student development.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Bachelor's degree in Education, English, or a related field (teaching certification required).
• Proven experience teaching English/Language Arts to primary-aged children.
• Strong knowledge of literacy development, phonics, and children's literature.
• Excellent communication, creativity, and classroom management skills.
• Patience, empathy, and a nurturing teaching style.
