Overview
  • To lead the development and implementation of an effective tissue viability and wound care management service for Amana Healthcare
  • To implement a contemporary, evidenced-based model of care in the prevention and management of skin and tissue injuries.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels with the interdisciplinary team
  • To promote a progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient care through research, evidence-based practice, and change management.
Responsibilities

Leadership
  • Provides professional leadership and acts as positive role model and mentor to nursing colleagues.
  • Promotes an interdisciplinary team approach to the prevention and management of skin and tissue injuries.
  • Provides professional leadership and mentorship for nurses who have undertaken expansion of scope of practice in the assessment of the diabetic foot and lower limb vascular assessment.
  • Demonstrates accountability, critical thinking and leadership in conflict management and problem solving.
  • Recommends and manages appropriate resources to support the prevention and management of skin and tissue injuries
  • Acts as a resource for staff regarding tissue viability, wound and stoma care management.
  • Leads in the recruitment and professional development of Tissue Viability nurses
  • Develops and implements a program to assist in professional development and succession planning of Tissue Viability and Wound Care nurses post completion of a training needs analysis.
  • Imparts knowledge and skills within the interdisciplinary team
  • Positively and actively participates in organisational change.
  • Audits compliance with organisational documentation standards.
  • Monitors and supports organizational key performance indicators
Clinical Practice
  • Provides clinical leadership with the assessment, management and evaluation of care of skin and tissue injuries.
  • Recommends appropriate, evidence-based regimens for the prevention and management of skin and tissue injuries
  • Ensures that all patients with skin and tissue injuries are treated as per clinical orders and current wound care protocols/ guidelines.
  • Recognises the boundaries of their scope of practice and limits of own competence.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary and family meetings to address skin and tissue injury-related concerns in the plan of care.
  • Reviews all incidents of skin and tissue injuries and correctly categorize these as reflected in the performance indicators.
  • Ensures that a root cause analysis is conducted on all patients who develop or have a worsening skin/tissue injury with an action plan that addresses the causes.
  • Ensures that the performance indicators accurately reflect the skin and tissue injuries within the organization.
  • Promotes quality of life and embraces the unique social and cultural role of the family.
  • Ensures that action plans and improvement projects are developed and implemented, based on a root cause analysis for all performance indicators which exceed stated benchmarks.
  • Ensures that a regular incidence and prevalence study is conducted to correlate accuracy of reported skin and tissue injuries
  • Networks and establishes linkages with local/ national wound care and tissue viability groups and brand representatives within the region.
  • Provides clinical leadership in the arena of lymphoedema management with the provision of complete decongestive therapy.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary team to provide lower limb vascular assessment inclusive of diabetic foot screening and ankle brachial pressure index monitoring for cohort of patients with diabetes.
  • Responsible for caseload management of tissue viability service across inpatient, homecare and outpatient services.
  • Participates as a member of multidisciplinary team to provide continuity of care from primary to acute care.
  • Actively participates in meetings regarding resident/patient care where required.
Communication
  • Maintains confidentiality and security of the resident/patient, family, and organization information in accordance with Amana policy, procedures & guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with the healthcare team through sharing of information in accordance with legal, professional, and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate leadership in professional practice by using professional language (verbally and in writing) that represents the plan of care, which is shared with the person and other members of the inter-professional team.
  • Facilitate clinical supervision and mentorship through utilizing tissue viability specialist knowledge and clinical competencies.
  • Utilize information technology, in accordance with legislation and organizational policies and procedures, to record all aspects of advanced nursing care
Education & Research
  • Leads performance improvement activities based on identified issues from indicators, incident reports, root causes analyses and audits.
  • Provides peer review of Tissue Viability Nurses and facilitates others competence and specialist skill acquisition.
  • Actively leads and participates in research initiatives which lead to an increase in the body of knowledge of wound care and tissue viability.
  • Participates in delivering education internally through formal and informal avenues.
  • Participates in the delivery of change management strategies through local, national and international conferences.
  • Actively participates in the development of resources which guide the care of patients with actual and potential skin and tissue injuries.
Performance Improvement/Risk Management
  • Responsible for ensuring that skin injuries which are reported by the nursing team are appropriately investigated and corrective or preventative action is carried out in coordination with the Quality and Patient Safety Manager.
  • Works in conjunction with the Service Line Manager to provide monthly validation of skin injuries and quarterly review in collaboration with
Quality and Patient Safety Manager.
  • Monitors and evaluates the quality of nursing care provided.
  • Actively participates in accreditation activities.
  • Audits compliance with organizational documentation standards.
  • Proactively seek feedback from persons receiving care, families and staff on their experiences and suggestions for improvement
  • Supports and participates in ongoing educational and research programs within the Nursing Department and the organization.
  • Supports and participates in the implementation of evidence-based practice to promote clinical knowledge and a research based clinical practice environment.
  • Monitors and supports the organisational key performance indicators and clinical indicators and reinforces corrective action to improve clinical service.
  • Identify gaps in the provision of care and services and apply the best available evidence.
  • Implement practice changes using negotiation and consensus building, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and persons receiving care.
Occupational Safety and Health (OSH)
  • Take reasonable care of their own safety and health, and of others that might be affected by their acts or omissions at work.
  • Comply with reasonable OSH instructions and safe working procedures, familiarize themselves, understand, co-operate, and comply with their employer OSH policies, procedures with respect to any instructions and/or actions taken by the management to protect the employees and/or comply with OSH requirements which are relevant to their workplace.
  • Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems and ensure they are maintained in good working condition.
  • Be familiar and participate in emergency management and evacuation drills.
  • Not wilfully or recklessly endanger anyone\xe2\x80\x99s health and safety.
  • Assist with the preparation of risk assessments.
  • Report all OSH hazards, incidents, and issues to their immediate supervisor.
  • Attends mandatory OSH trainings in accordance with the OSHMS requirements.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Develops and maintains own Professional Portfolio to meet all policy/standards and licensing requirements for the UAE and home country.
  • Develops and maintains a Professional Portfolio realted to Tissue Viability
  • Obtains accredited and non-accredited Continuing Medical Education (CME) Units in compliance with DoH, the organisations requirements and home country licensing requirements
  • Ensures patient confidentiality is respected and maintained at all times
  • Works as a strong patient advocate maintaining effective channels of communication with residents/patients, relatives, and all members of the interdisciplinary team
  • Acts as a patient advocate, challenging poor practice and discriminatory attitudes and behaviours
  • Recognizes the boundaries of their scope of practice and limits of own competence
  • Promotes quality of life and embraces the unique social and cultural role of the family
  • Facilitates a climate of mutual understanding and appreciation of cultural differences inherent in a multicultural society

  • Act as an advocate for the vulnerable, challenging poor practice and discriminatory attitudes and behavior relating to their care.

  • Provides age-appropriate resident/patient care according to the Nursing Scope of Practice as defined by DoH.

  • Are responsible to take action to report incidents, including near misses; to ensure as an organization we learn.
  • Compliance with Abu Dhabi Environmental Health & Safety Management System which integrates with the Health and Safety regulations of the facility.
  • Adheres to and promotes recommended practice in relation to controlling and preventing infection, by taking all reasonable personal precautions necessary to avoid any potential health risks to colleagues, resident/patients\xe2\x80\x99/patients\xe2\x80\x99, families, and visitors.

Qualifications
Required:
a) Current UAE License as a Registered Nurse, Specialty Nurse or Nurse Practitioner
b) Post graduate qualification in Tissue Viability from recognised authorising body

a) Previous leadership role
b) Wide background is preferred (i.e ICU, acute medical/surgical).
