The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering practical and theoretical training in tile laying, including surface preparation, tiling techniques, material usage, safety standards, and industry best practices. This role is vital to developing job-ready graduates who meet the growing demands of the construction industry in Fiji and the Pacific region.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver hands-on and classroom-based training in tile laying techniques and practices.
Develop and update curriculum materials, lesson plans, and practical assessments aligned with national vocational standards.
Instruct students on surface preparation, tile cutting, layout design, adhesive application, grouting, and finishing.
Ensure safe and effective use of tools, materials, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Assess students' performance through practical and written evaluations.
Provide guidance and mentorship to students to support their skill development and career growth.
Stay current with industry trends, standards, and emerging technologies in tile installation.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of training programs and workshop facilities.
Collaborate with other instructors and industry partners for internships, site visits, or guest sessions.
Participate in institutional activities such as open days, seminars, and skills competitions.
Qualifications & Experience:
Certificate or Diploma in Tiling, Building & Construction, or a related trade qualification.
Minimum 5 years of proven industry experience in tile laying (ceramic, porcelain, mosaic, etc.).
Prior experience as a trainer, mentor, or supervisor in a vocational setting is preferred.
Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations and quality workmanship standards.
Ability to deliver training to diverse learners in a practical and engaging manner.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Commitment to student success and lifelong learning.
Desirable Attributes:
TVET Trainer Certification or willingness to obtain one.
Experience working in the Pacific or multicultural training environments.
Familiarity with competency-based education (CBE) and assessment systems.
