System Lead Infection Prevention And Control

Job Description

The System Lead Infection Prevention and Control is responsible for overseeing and implementing the organization-wide Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) program. This role ensures patient safety, reduces infection risks, eliminates avoidable healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), and maintains full compliance with the requirements of accrediting and regulatory bodies, as well as international best practices across all healthcare facilities within the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic & Operational Oversight:

  • Develop and implement system-wide IPC strategies.
  • Establish, maintain, and regularly update IPC programs, policies, procedures, and guidelines across the organization.
  • Promote a culture of safety and accountability regarding infection prevention.
Leadership & Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative leaders to align IPC activities with organizational goals.
  • Work across departments, service lines, and disciplines, including clinicians, public health officials, and infection preventionists.
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with the Chair of the Corporate IPC Committee and/or the Chief of Infectious Diseases.
Monitoring, Compliance & Reporting:
  • Ensure compliance with national and international IPC standards and regulations.
  • Conduct regular IPC rounds at all healthcare facilities.
  • Collect, analyze, and trend infection data using appropriate statistical tools.
  • Present findings and recommendations to relevant committees and stakeholders.
  • Lead outbreak investigations and drive the implementation of corrective actions.
Education, Training & Development:
  • Provide ongoing education, coaching, and consultation on IPC practices across all levels and departments.
  • Plan and evaluate all components of the IPC program to ensure effectiveness.
  • Participate in or lead research initiatives to advance IPC practices.
  • Facilitate staff development programs and performance reviews related to IPC.
Supervisory Duties:
  • Provide mentorship and support to infection prevention staff across all sites.
  • Ensure team productivity and ongoing improvement in IPC service delivery.
Other Duties:
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Chair of Patient Safety and Quality or other designated leadership to support departmental operations.
Qualifications:
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Medicine, Nursing, Laboratory Technology, Microbiology, Public Health, Biology, or a health-related field (required).
  • Masters degree in Healthcare Studies, Healthcare Management, or Public Health (preferred).
  • PhD in Infection Prevention and Control (desirable).
Certifications:
  • Internationally recognized professional certification in Infection Prevention and Control (e.g., CIC Certification in Infection Control) Required
Experience Requirements
  • Years of Experience: 3 years
  • Experience in the healthcare quality field in activities relevant to the roles.
  • Years of Experience: 2 years
  • Progressive experience in quality or facilitating interdisciplinary improvement teams in a healthcare setting, or other relevant experience.
