2. Job Purpose
To provide expert, comprehensive, and ethical medical care within the designated specialty. The Specialist Doctor is responsible for the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients, ensuring the highest clinical outcomes. The role involves clinical practice, participation in multidisciplinary teams, and a commitment to continuous education and quality improvement.
3. Key Responsibilities & Duties
A. Clinical Services:

  • Conduct thorough patient consultations, examinations, and assessments.
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests and procedures relevant to the specialty.
  • Formulate and implement evidence-based treatment plans for both inpatients and outpatients.
  • Perform specialist procedures and surgeries (as per credentialing and scope of practice).
  • Manage acute and chronic conditions, ensuring continuity of care.
  • Provide patient and family education on disease prevention, treatment options, and health maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential electronic medical records (using systems like Cerner or Epic).
B. Professional & Clinical Leadership:
  • Supervise and mentor Resident Doctors, Medical Officers, and other junior clinical staff.
  • Participate actively in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, case conferences, and tumor boards.
  • Adhere to and promote clinical governance frameworks, international accreditation standards (e.g., JCI, CAP), and MoH (Ministry of Health) / DoH (Department of Health - Abu Dhabi) regulations.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical protocols, policies, and pathways.
C. Quality, Safety & Risk Management:
  • Ensure compliance with all infection control, patient safety, and medication management protocols.
  • Participate in clinical audit cycles, peer review, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Report and manage clinical incidents and near misses according to facility policy.
  • Uphold the highest standards of medical ethics and patient confidentiality.
D. Administrative Duties:
  • Participate in on-call schedules as required by the department.
  • Manage clinic schedules efficiently to optimize patient access and flow.
  • Collaborate with nursing, administrative, and support staff to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Assist in the inventory and management of medical supplies and equipment for the specialty.
4. Qualifications, Experience & Licensing Requirements
  • Essential:
  • Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of a recognized specialty residency program (e.g., Arab Board, Western Board - American, Canadian, UK CCT, or equivalent).
  • Valid DoH (Department of Health - Abu Dhabi) License or Eligibility Letter as a Specialist.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of post-qualification experience working independently as a Specialist.
  • Proficiency in English. Knowledge of Arabic is a significant advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and cultural competency skills.
  • Preferred:
  • Sub-specialty fellowship or additional certification in a focused area.
  • Prior experience working in a JCI-accredited or similar internationally accredited hospital.
  • Research experience and a record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Proficiency in using advanced healthcare IT systems.
