The Slinger is responsible for safely directing crane operations and ensuring loads are secured and moved according to site safety standards. They act as the primary communication link between the crane operator and ground staff, ensuring all lifting operations are carried out efficiently and without incident.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct the movement of loads and lifting equipment on construction sites using hand signals or radio communication.
Select and attach appropriate lifting gear (chains, slings, shackles, hooks) to loads.
Check lifting equipment for defects prior to use and report any damage.
Ensure lifting plans and risk assessments are followed on-site.
Maintain clear communication with crane operators, site supervisors, and other personnel involved in lifting operations.
Monitor worksite surroundings and ensure exclusion zones are maintained for public and worker safety.
Assist in preparing loads for lifting and secure items during lifting operations.
Comply with health and safety legislation, policies, and procedures at all times.
Qualifications & Experience:
Valid CPCS/NPORS Slinger/Signaller card (or equivalent recognized certification).
Previous experience in a construction or civil engineering environment.
Good understanding of lifting operations and safety procedures.
Ability to read and interpret lift plans and safety documentation.
Physically fit with good coordination and attention to detail.
Preferred:
Additional lifting or rigging qualifications.
Experience with a range of lifting equipment and machinery.
Working Conditions:
Outdoor work in all weather conditions.
May involve working at heights and in noisy environments.
Requires the use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
