Senior Sales Engineer for IP and SW:
Join our highly capable and successful International Solutions Architecture team, a highly skilled and experienced team that assists telecom operators build networks for the future.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a technical authority to help define, develop and present our Multilayer IP network and related Network Automation (SDN, Planning, Optimisation) solutions. The position is flexible in terms of location in ME for day-to-day working and will require business travel across the region to engage with our customers and teams.
This position will serve as a Senior Sales Engineer (SE) for Ciena’s IP and software product portfolio in EMEA. Several activities are implied, matching the different stages of an expected sales cycle, including:
  • Working on engagements with customers, partners, commercial teams as well as the broader Sales/SE/SA community in the international region including Product Line Management, R&D and Professional Services
  • Detailed architecture and solution engineering, including RFx response activity and solution costing
  • Support for demonstrations, trials, and proofs of concepts
  • Working with the customers at all stages, acting as the primary technical voice for Ciena as relates to the solutions offered
    • Supporting the BD and sales organisation in identifying and developing related business opportunities.
    • Engaging with customers at all stages, acting as a primary voice for Ciena as relates IP and software solutions and their value.
    • Keeping strong alignment with PLM to drive key roadmap requirements to support business opportunities
    • Providing knowledge transfer to ensure continuous upskilling of the sales teams, using your vast industry and technical knowledge.
Your Responsibilities
  • Reporting to the SE manager, the candidate will work within a cross-functional team in support of Ciena’s IP Solutions portfolio in EMEA
  • Works with local sales teams to determine the most effective engagement strategies for near term as well as sustained success within key accounts
  • Serves as the primary technical voice to determine and negotiate the best fit for Ciena’s portfolio in a given customer application or architecture
  • Acts as the technical lead, working alongside other engineering/design resources to specify the best technical solution for a given opportunity
  • Supports bid responses, as well as technical presentations, demos, and proofs of concept throughout sales cycle
  • Communicates with customers (and channels/partners) across EMEA at a range of levels, to champion Ciena’s solutions. Shows strong ability to communicate a good blend of technology/networking trends, as well as business value of Ciena solutions. This implies frequent and sustained engagement to build and maintain the customer’s trust and confidence during long sales cycles and drive to successful outcome for Ciena.
  • Drives technical direction for key opportunities, including solution specification, design, and costing. This includes the ability to debate and discuss technology alternatives with customers and partners to drive to the best balance of features, price, and timeline for a given solution

Minimum Qualifications
  • Engineering Degree or equivalent.
  • 6+ years of solid telecommunications industry experience with solution sales or consulting experience and successful track record of accomplishment
  • Proven record of experience in Routing and Switching related technology stacks. IGP/EGP, MPLS-TP, MPLS (LER/LSR), Segment Routing, EVPN, IPv6
  • Sound knowledge of current technologies trends, with experience in Fixed and Mobile Networks and Services, FMC, IP/Optical Convergence.
  • Ability to dialog with customers on the merits of next generation routing and switching technologies and to encompass both detailed technical merits, as well as business merits
  • Good communicator at all levels – from executive to technical to operational audiences
  • Ability to connect into the various parts of the Ciena EMEA and corporate/global organization
  • Ability to travel, estimated as 25%
