ABOUT THE FUNCTION

As a Senior role in Veterinary, the candidate will be responsible for overseeing the health and well-being of horses and other livestock within the stable or equestrian facility. This role involves diagnosing and treating injuries and illnesses, providing preventive care, and ensuring the overall health and welfare of the animals. This also plays a key role in advising stable management on nutrition, breeding, and general animal care.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED

• Conduct regular health assessments of all horses and other livestock within the stable.
• Diagnose and treat injuries, illnesses, and medical conditions in animals.
• Administer vaccinations and perform routine health check-ups.
• Perform surgical procedures when necessary, such as castrations or other equine surgeries.
• Develop and implement vaccination and deworming schedules.
• Advise on dental care, hoof maintenance, and overall wellness programs.
• Recommend and provide nutritional plans to ensure the well-being of animals.
• Be available for on-call duty to respond to emergency cases or accidents involving animals within the stable.
• Provide immediate care and stabilization of injured or distressed animals.
• Maintain detailed medical records for all animals under your care.
• Ensure accurate documentation of treatments, medications, and medical history.
• Collaborate with stable management and staff to provide guidance on animal health and welfare.
• Consult with farriers, nutritionists, and other specialists as needed to ensure comprehensive care.
• Stay updated on the latest advancements in veterinary medicine and equine care.
• Attend relevant workshops, seminars, and conferences to enhance your knowledge and skills.

JOB SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree.
• State licensure to practice veterinary medicine.
• Specialization or experience in equine or large animal medicine is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of horse and livestock health, anatomy, and behavior.
• Excellent diagnostic and surgical skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with stable staff and owners.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Availability for on-call and emergency situations.
• Compassion and dedication to the welfare of animals.
