Job Overview
:
The
Senior Payroll Accountant
is responsible for managing all payroll-related accounting tasks, ensuring accurate payroll disbursement, accounting compliance, payroll reconciliations, and reporting in line with UAE Labor Law and internal controls.
This includes managing complex payroll entries for a large workforce involved in diverse contracting operations and construction projects.
What will you do?
1. Payroll Accounting & Disbursement
Process payroll accounting entries including salary, overtime, bonuses, advances, EOSB, and deductions.
Ensure compliance with
Wage Protection System (WPS)
for both staff and site laborers.
Reconcile payroll disbursements with cash/bank statements monthly.
Post journal entries related to payroll transactions into the
general ledger (GL)
.
2. Payroll Reconciliation & Reporting
Conduct monthly and year-end payroll reconciliations between
HR payroll records
,
bank statements
, and
ERP ledgers
.
Generate and submit payroll reports (payroll register, WPS summary, salary variance analysis) to the Finance Manager.
Prepare payroll-related provisions (e.g., accrued salaries, leave salary, gratuity) and ensure correct allocation.
3. Compliance & Documentation
Ensure compliance with
UAE Labor Law
, WPS, and tax (if applicable).
Ensure proper filing and documentation of payroll records for
audits (internal and external)
.
Assist in preparing payroll-related documentation for
government reporting
or audit reviews.
4. Coordination & Support
Coordinate closely with HR for changes in salary, promotions, resignations, or contract updates.
Collaborate with HR and site timekeepers for validation of timesheets, overtime, and absence.
Support HR and PRO in queries related to final settlements and benefits.
5. System Management & Controls
Maintain payroll modules in ERP.
Support the Finance Department in implementing
payroll-related controls
to prevent errors and fraud.
Review payroll-related audit trails and suggest improvements in workflow and controls.
Qualifications & Skills:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in
Accounting, Finance
, or equivalent.
Professional certifications
(e.g., CMA, CPA, or UAE VAT training) are preferred.
Experience:
5-8 years of experience in
payroll accounting
, preferably in a
contracting or construction environment
.
Experience handling payroll for a
large workforce (5,000+ employees)
in the UAE.
Technical Skills:
Proficient in
ERP systems
.
Advanced Excel skills for data validation, reconciliation, and reporting.
Knowledge of
UAE WPS standards
, gratuity laws, and leave policies.
