The successful resource will control and manage the technical processes and operational integrity of the IaaS (Infrastructure-as-a-Service) platform provided by the company and oversee and coordinate the activities of the Layer 2 IaaS engineering team whilst ensuring that IaaS services availability is within the defined SLA. Responsibilities:
Managerial Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning
Propose and communicate team’s and individual KPI’s for the L2 IaaS engineering team and ensure they are in line with department, business unit and G42 strategic goals.
Provide input towards budget preparation for the section to the Senior Manager.
Corporate Performance Management
Oversee the performance of the L2 IaaS engineering team, provide direction and guidance to the employees on achieving team’s objectives.
Proactively communicate the annual objectives and KPIs to employees.
Engage with the Senior Manager to identify opportunities to improve the team’s performance.
People Management
Provide constructive feedback to direct reports and provide inputs to the department head on performance of employees.
Provide inputs to the training and development needs of the section’s employees.
Functional Responsibilities:
Maintain and manage cloud IaaS environment including software deployment and upgrades, system setup, administration, monitoring and configuration, disaster recovery and routine update of services.
Define, test and roll out new IaaS features and services to improve customer success across the G42 Cloud platform.
Identify infrastructure dependencies, such as, cloud capacity and platform services, integrations and data flows requirements, to plan and drive these dependencies at various stages of project.
Manage report of infrastructure incidents and follow standard procedures for the escalation of unresolved issues (L2/L3) to the appropriate stakeholders.
Monitor the change management, incident management and problem management processes, response time, quality, productivity and ticket handling within the team.
Collaborate with information security and business operations team to identify and implement IaaS platform gaps.
Apply analytical, research and problem-solving skills across various systems and situations, including those that may be unfamiliar, to address critical issues in line with G42’s code of ethics and policies and procedures.
Work closely with solutions team, project managers to ensure that systems are production- ready.
Organizational Responsibilities:
Governance
Maintain awareness and adherence to the department/section’s policies and procedures.
Ensure compliance of the team to the guidelines defined by division/department’s, such as, HR, legal, risk and quality assurance in addition to G42’s framework and DoA.
Participate in the periodic audit of the established policies and procedures.
Management Reporting
Contribute to the development of periodic reports, as requested by the department head.
Propose and recommend remedial activities to manage any quality or non-compliance issues that arise during the review of periodic reports.
Technology Management
Support in the process of identifying section’s technology-related needs that helps drive automation within the section and direct line of work.
Professional Development
Proactively identify and seek professional development opportunities to improve leadership and technical skills pertaining to the direct line of work and inline with G42 values/behaviours.
Participate in performance appraisals and reflect on the feedback and recommendations provided by the line manager for development.
Other Responsibilities:
Comply with applicable laws, regulations, international standards and related G42 Policies and Procedures.
Comply with G42 Acceptable Use Policy, attend mandatory information security, privacy, business continuity and HSE trainings.
Report information security, HSE etc. incidents or suspect incidents through G42 established incident reporting channels.
Maintain confidentiality of information and classify and handle information as per G42 Policies and Procedures.
Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Computer Science Information Technology, Engineering or related field
Minimum 6 years of experience in a technical support, engineering or operations environment with at least 2 years of experience in managing system engineering teams.
Minimum 4 years of experience managing and participating in large-scale technical projects within core infrastructure including networking, storage, and computing.
Solid understanding of cloud concepts and services (AWS,GCP,Azure) with focus on the IaaS domain
Knowledge of implementation and support of various storage solutions and related technologies (SAN, Distributed Storage systems, Clustered FS, etc)
Knowledge of implementation and support of private clouds(Openstack, VMWare)
Knowledge of network and security technologies (TCP/IP stack, VPN, PKI, etc)
