Job Description

Job Purpose: Provide support to Business Units, Regional offices and HO in order to continuously improve terminal operations and make them more efficient with the help of focus. Organize and conduct operational assessments of Business Units. Develop, direct and implement Company\xe2\x80\x99s operational strategic direction in line with the GOE pillars.

Direct and share company\xe2\x80\x99s policies, standards and best practices. Ensure implementation of processes and procedures that are cost efficient and with due regard for safety, quality and productivity, over the entire portfolio of ports and terminals. Help accomplish efficiency objectives by bringing a systematic approach to analyse and improve the effectiveness of the operation applying LEAN management system. Provide an objective quality assurance in consulting style design to bring added value and provide for continuous improvement of DP World\xe2\x80\x99s operations. Implement guidelines, processes, procedures and develop a set of Global operations programs focused on efficiency improvement with special regard to optimisation. Monitor and work with regions and business units to manage labor costs and overall operating costs to reduce overtime on a per unit basis. Key Accountabilities: Operational Excellence & Process Improvement:
  • Provide operational assistance and project support to other departments at the Head Office, Regional Offices and / or Business Units for new projects and existing Business Units expansions or upgrades.
  • Provide hands on operational assistance to business units pre and post Go Live or underperforming with regards to staff mobilization and recruitment. Incidentally take over as interim COO or Operations Manager.
  • Develop, upgrade and implement operational policies, procedures and standards. Work in collaboration with Head Office Safety & Environment, Security and Engineering as necessary, as well as Regional Offices. Establish library for global operations standardization and best practices and share this via the portals and other media.
  • Conduct Business Process Improvement assessments. Incorporate ingredients of LEAN framework in the assessment and use this methodology to identify deviations from standards and measure the assessment to help the BU to adopt continuous improvement cycle, quality thinking system in order to improve safety, service levels and efficiency.
  • Make recommendations and report the findings in Executive Summary to the SVP Global Operations, Regional SVP and Head of Business Unit and monitor the progress.
  • Perform Business Units AFE reviews for capital expenditure and advise the SVP Operations
  • Monitor Business Units\xe2\x80\x99 performance KPIs including cost and operational KPIs. Highlight abnormalities and assist business units to mitigate the issues in order to improve productivity and efficiency. Assist and take initiative to reverse underperforming Business.
  • Assist and take initiative to improve underperforming Business Units in relation to operational activities, efficiency, processes, cost etc.

Share best practice:
  • Share company\xe2\x80\x99s policies, standards and best practices and system solutions via Internal communication, GOE portal and Innogate platform.
  • Ensure implementation of processes and procedures that are cost efficient and with due regard for safety, quality and productivity.
  • Act as catalyst and advisor for sharing and transfer of knowledge between Business Units
Greenfield design:
  • Participate and provide operational input in Due Diligence evaluations preliminary to the acquisition of new businesses.
  • Perform operational reviews of capital acquisitions for new projects and existing Business Units including layout with traffic plans and in-depth modeling of terminal capacity, equipment and labor requirement.
  • Help the BU to write the scope of work for third party greenfield simulation. Review of outsourced simulation and business modeling and help to translate into pragmatic terminal design.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
  • Experience in operations and process improvement.
    • Minimum 8 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience within container terminal operations with a keen interest in best business practices and process improvement.
    • In depth knowledge of container terminals organisation, operations, TOS, vessel, yard and resource planning, procedures, business processes, budgeting and related financial controls.
    • Multi ports experience.
    • Proven experience in successful process improvement projects.
    • Analytical thinking towards continuous improvement of processes and procedures.
    • LEAN six sigma knowledge desirable.
    • Project Management skills preferable.
  • Presentation and communication skills
    • Excellent presentation skills can persuade people and explain complex matters with ease.
    • Ability to communicate in multicultural environment from blue collars to executive management.
    • Strong relationship management skills, ability to convince people.
    • Ability to deliver staff training when required.
    • Intermediate to advanced skills in the use of MS Office suite.
    • Capable of writing well-structured reports and business models.
    • Open and embracing of change and change management.
  • Subject Skills
    • Extensive and in-depth knowledge of container terminal operations. Held various management positions preferably in operations department.
    • The desire to learn, keeping up to date and adapt to a changing business environment impacting business practices, procedures and assessments.
    • Knowledge of Safety, Environmental and Security and how they relate to terminal operations and company commitments .
