The low-carbon hydrogen sector is diverse and complex. It involves:

  • A range of technologies and process for hydrogen production, including both 'green' and 'blue' hydrogen systems
  • A wide range of possible end-uses for hydrogen is a range of sectors, including all sorts of industries, domestic/residential heating, transport, and as part of a flexible electricity system
  • A wide range of considerations associated with transport, storage, transmission and distribution
  • Many commercial, economic, policy and regulatory issues that need to be resolved before we will see an active hydrogen economy emerge,
  • The potential for international trade of hydrogen, with shipping in various forms, including liquefied gas, or ammonia as a hydrogen carrier, and a rapidly changing landscape with technology, policy and regulatory innovation.
There are main technical, commercial and policy themes that need to be considered in this hydrogen landscape.

In this context, and as part of our rapidly growing global Future Energy initiative, we are seeking a Senior Engineer/Consultant in the UK with some experience within the hydrogen landscape to support the further growth of our activities in the hydrogen economy in the UK, and to contribute to our hydrogen-related activities globally.

Required Skills and Experience:
  • An engineer with 5+ years experience and knowledge of the hydrogen sector in the UK, and internationally.
  • Already involved in industry and research activities in the hydrogen economy, with an established network in this sector.
  • Appreciation of the full spectrum of themes across the full 'value chain' for hydrogen - production to end-use.
  • Strong, demonstrable engineering skills.
  • Knowledge of at least one specific aspect of hydrogen as an energy vector such as hydrogen mobility, syngas production and utilisation or Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), which could be related to specific technology, or engineering aspects, or economic analysis.
  • Appreciation of the relevance of a range of consultancy services to the market.
  • Good communication and presentation skills and a track record of effective team working.
  • A self starter with the ability to deliver results in a challenging, client-facing environment
Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Support project origination and proposal development
  • Manage the delivery of client projects
  • Identify opportunities (projects) for GHD across the hydrogen value chain
  • Work cooperatively with other teams within GHD
  • Participate in industry associations, representing the interests of GHD
  • Communicating and presenting insightful technical information to conferences and clients
