Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced

Senior Design Lead

to join our specialized flightcase and foam manufacturing division. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in custom furniture design and manufacturing, combined with technical expertise in

AutoCAD

and

SketchUp

, to lead the design, development, and execution of highly customized, durable flight cases, foam inserts, protective packaging solutions, and specialized cabinetry.

This role demands deep knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials (including plywood, aluminum profiles, foam, hardware), production techniques, and joinery, with a strong focus on both functionality and aesthetics. The Senior Design Lead will oversee the complete design lifecycle, from concept development to production handover, ensuring the highest levels of quality, precision, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the end-to-end design of custom flight cases, foam inserts, and packaging solutions tailored to specific equipment protection needs. Develop detailed 2D technical drawings, 3D models, and visual presentations using

AutoCAD

and

SketchUp

. Design accurate foam layouts with complex cutouts for sensitive equipment, integrating CNC-compatible files. Translate customer specifications and equipment dimensions into precise, functional design solutions. Develop full shop drawings, cutting lists, CNC files, and detailed BOM (Bill of Materials) for production. Work closely with the Design Team, Production Manager's to ensure all designs are practical, manufacturable, and cost-effective. Optimize design solutions to reduce waste, improve production efficiency, and maintain product durability. Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and maintaining high quality standards. Supervise and lead junior designers, providing technical guidance and design direction. Coordinate design input across sales and production to ensure full alignment. Conduct design reviews, internal audits, and quality checks throughout the design development process. Continuously explore and implement new design methodologies, materials, and technologies that improve product performance, aesthetics, and production efficiency. Analyze project requirements and prepare accurate

cost estimates

for materials, labor, hardware, Machine time, and overheads. Create

Bill of Materials (BOM)

for each project, ensuring all cost factors are captured. Work closely with procurement to obtain updated material prices and lead times. Develop and maintain pricing databases for standard and custom products. Review design proposals for cost efficiency and recommend design modifications to optimize costs without compromising quality. Provide General Manager with detailed costing reports, profit margin analysis, and project financial projections. Support the internal team in preparing quotes / Costing .

Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Furniture Design, Civil Engineering, or related discipline. Minimum 7-10 years of design experience, preferably in

flightcase manufacturing, foam fabrication, packaging design, furniture manufacturing, or custom fabrication

. Expert-level proficiency in

AutoCAD

and

SketchUp

(mandatory). Experience with CNC programming, laser cutting files, and foam cutting layouts is highly desirable. Solid understanding of furniture joinery, cabinetry hardware, and manufacturing processes. Strong technical knowledge of materials such as laminated plywood, aluminum extrusions, various foam grades, and protective hardware. Proven ability to translate functional requirements into high-quality design solutions. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and precision. Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead cross-functional teams.
