AECOM are currently seeking a Senior Design Manager, to join our Architecture & Interiors team. The successful candidate is responsible for leading the technical design of large, complex projects or managing a portfolio of medium to large-scale projects with the assistance of DMs or ADMs. This role demands advanced technical expertise, strategic oversight, and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, compliant, and client-focused design solutions.
Responsibilities:
Lead the overall design strategy and execution for complex projects, ensuring alignment with client briefs, project goals, and technical standards.
Maintain a thorough understanding of company project protocols and reporting requirements, providing comprehensive support for all design-related matters to the Project Manager (PM).
Work independently within established procedures, exercising discretion in setting priorities and managing workflows.
Develop and manage design budgets in collaboration with the PM, identifying risks and opportunities with potential commercial impact and proposing timely mitigation strategies.
Demonstrate exceptional organisational skills, effectively prioritising and managing multiple critical tasks simultaneously.
Communicate clearly and professionally with internal teams, stakeholders, and clients to ensure accurate and timely dissemination of project information.
Provide day-to-day leadership and coordination of the design team, ensuring outputs meet quality standards and client expectations.
Manage stakeholder expectations realistically and build strong, respectful relationships with internal and external clients.
Oversee the development and maintenance of the project's technical approach, ensuring adherence to design standards and protocols.
Represent technical issues to clients independently and communicate outcomes effectively to internal teams.
Collaborate with the PM teams to secure necessary resources, define scope, and set cost and time estimates for project tasks, ensuring joint commitment across teams.
Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams, fostering collaboration to deliver integrated and comprehensive technical solutions.
Serve as an internal expert on specific technologies or processes, contributing to innovation and technical excellence.
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and competitive positioning.
Supervise and mentor up to three early-career professionals, supporting their development and ensuring high-quality team output.
Lead at least two project or program proposals annually, contributing to business development and strategic growth.
Proven leadership in managing complex design projects and multidisciplinary teams.
Deep understanding of design standards, codes, and regulatory frameworks.
