The Senior Barista is responsible for ensuring excellent customer service, maintaining high-quality standards for coffee and other beverages, and supervising junior staff members. This role involves both hands-on barista work and leadership duties, ensuring the smooth operation of the cafe.
Key Responsibilities:
Customer Service:
Greet and engage customers, providing a welcoming atmosphere.
Take orders accurately and efficiently.
Address customer inquiries and resolve complaints in a professional manner.
Coffee and Beverage Preparation:
Prepare and serve high-quality coffee and espresso-based drinks, following established recipes and techniques.
Maintain consistency in beverage preparation.
Experiment with and introduce new beverage recipes.
Team Leadership:
Train and mentor junior baristas on coffee-making techniques, customer service, and safety procedures.
Supervise daily operations and ensure staff adherence to company policies.
Schedule shifts and manage daily staff rosters.
Quality Control:
Monitor inventory levels and place orders for coffee beans, milk, syrups, and other supplies.
Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of coffee machines and equipment.
Conduct regular quality checks to maintain high standards.
Operational Duties:
Assist in opening and closing the cafe, including cash handling and balancing the till.
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
Handle administrative tasks as required by the manager.
Qualifications:
Proven experience as a barista, with a deep understanding of coffee brewing techniques and equipment.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Ability to multitask and work efficiently under pressure.
Knowledge of health and safety regulations related to food and beverage service.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification in barista training or coffee preparation.
Experience in a supervisory or senior barista role.
Working Conditions:
Ability to stand for long periods and perform physically demanding tasks.
Flexibility to work various shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
