Job Description

Job Purpose:

The Screwman is responsible for operating and adjusting the screed controls on the asphalt paving machine to ensure the correct thickness, level, and smoothness of the asphalt surface. The role requires precision, technical knowledge, and close coordination with the paving crew to deliver high-quality road finishes according to project specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate and control the screed adjustments on the asphalt paver during paving operations. Set up screed parameters such as thickness, width, slope, and grade as per project specifications. Monitor the paving process continuously to ensure consistent surface quality and compaction. Adjust the screed manually or automatically using sensors and controls when required. Ensure the correct paving thickness and smooth surface finish as per project drawings. Inspect the asphalt mix consistency and compaction during operations. Report any issues affecting surface quality to the Foreman or Site Engineer immediately. Work closely with the Asphalt Foreman, Roller Operators, and other crew members to maintain proper paving speed and quality. Communicate effectively with the paver operator for synchronizing machine movements. Follow instructions from site engineers to ensure compliance with specifications. Ensure safe operation of the screed and paver machine in compliance with HSE guidelines. Conduct pre-operation checks and routine maintenance of screed equipment. Report any mechanical issues or malfunctions to the maintenance team immediately.

Qualifications & Skills:

Minimum

3+ years of experience

as a Screwman in asphalt paving works. In-depth knowledge of screed operations, asphalt paving techniques, and compaction standards. Familiarity with operating modern screed systems with

grade sensors

and

automation controls

. Ability to interpret basic project drawings and specifications. Strong attention to detail and quality standards.
