The main purpose of this job is to manage, maintain and optimize the computational resources of the project (hardware and scientific software), for the optimal use of resources for the modeling work to be done at the project, in close collaboration with the PI and the Research Computing Department at KU, under the framework of a collaborative project with the University of Manchester, funded by the RIC-2D center.
In addition, the candidate will conduct a specified program of research related to modeling under the supervision and direction of the faculty supervisor and other researchers.

Operational Responsibilities
Maintains and supports the workstations and software directly assigned to the project, deploys new infrastructure and works towards full automation of the operation and deployment of the HPC setup to support the research needs.
Coordinate the interactions and needs with the managers of the HPC cluster assigned to the center with the KU Research Computing Department.
Forecasts and anticipates future needs/growth opportunities.
Defines improvement proposals that focus on performance and stability for end-users.
Helps HPC/HPDA users run their workloads.
Conduct the specified program of research as defined by the approved project proposal, under the supervision and direction of the Principal Investigator.
Support the Principal Investigator, co-Investigators and research project members in the design and development of the research program for the assigned project and related areas as from the computational resources and needs.
Carry out administrative and management work associated with the program of research and the project.
Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities as required by the faculty supervisor, the RIC-2D Center, the Department or the University.
Engage in the wider research and scholarly activities of the research center, department and university.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Provide guidance to support staff and students assisting with computational resources and other facilities needed for the project, as required by the PI.
Contribute to assessment of student knowledge and supervision of their projects.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Experience
Required Qualifications
Master in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Computing Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related, with strong background high performance computing.
Bachelor in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Computing Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related, with a minimum (3+) years of Research Assistant experience and strong background high performance computing.
Required Experience
Proven experience in high performance computing administration
Some experience in DFT and/or molecular modeling software and use of other scientific software for materials modeling is a plus.
Ability to plan and manage own research activity and collaborate with others where joint working.
Expected to use resources in an appropriate way, usually under the supervision of PI
Ability to learn and apply new information or skills.
Proven ability to perform effectively in a demanding environment with changing workloads.
Result driven-demonstrate ownership and accountability.
Strong customer focus and commitment to customer satisfaction through prioritization, quality, efficiency and professionalism.
Work independently or as part of a team and follow through on assignments with minimal supervision.
